Very unexpected package today, Thank you to Cincy and everyone involved. Scans page 3 of a few &

Number one I don't want this to be anything other than me thanking all or any of you that did this. I didn't have a clue, very unexpected, and well I am not very good at accepting things. Usually I am the one giving, or inspiring, just what I have done my whole life. One of my failures(including not listing the Bryce Harper orange right away, and mispelled his last name, lol) is accepting things from others.

First off my wife went to the ER around 11 today. Her doctor's thought that would be best as she has really struggled breathing the past few days, and inhalers and meds haven't been fixing it. Short version they did Cat scans, and no clots, gave her some Decadron and sent her home. Her oxygen levels have been very low, only 2 points above the number when they recommend it. She is going to Duke on Monday for a full opinion, this will be the second time going there, just to make sure to see if there is anything else they can do. It was a hard day, that's why I was probably posting like crazy, to keep my mind off of it.

So moving along... I was going to wait until later, but after Jim(macrosb) posted that picture, I got inspired to open the box from BBCE. I was expecting my packs, and a few packs I got for a fellow board member who has been very helpful, supportive, and just a great guy.

So I proceed to open and see this sheet of paper...

image

So I open the box and there is a note, a black PSA box which seemed strange, and then other things wrapped.

image

Well it didn't make sense, so I was like okay these are my packs from the most recent break.

Well they weren't my packs from the recent break. These were packs that have more value than anything, because they came from many of you and Steve. I started getting a bit emotional as I was unwrapping them. Tend to be quite the emotional one in recent years. My daughter was worried something was wrong. She's like dad what's wrong? I just simply told her there are some amazing people out there. I can't still believe it. She sad dad that is really, really special. And it is. I was seriously worried my tears where going to fall on one of the packs as I was going through them.

This is insane. You guys/girls whomever did this, are incredible people, you really are...

image

Football run! 70's Cello's, I don't even own a quarter of these.

image

Basketball run, I mean these packs aren't cheap, I know, just incredible.

image

Complete 74 through 85 run... It's very overwhelming for me, I can't put it into words.

image

Vintage/80's Hockey run, blown away.

image

85/86 Topps Football Grocery Cello Trays!!

image

I just thought this is Picture with the PSA logo was very fitting. It's more than a grading company, a low pop, a PSA 10, it's a community of great people. I have just started to really get to know some of you. You have been so helpful in supporting me emotionally and now this. I did these breaks because they are fun. I am so glad you guys have gotten to enjoy them. I am so glad to be part of this forum.

My wife came home as I had just opened them. She is okay/stable as can be. I hugged her and couldn't wait to show her. She was simply amazed. You know on her Iphone she has that thread in her Google search and still reads it from when she was in the hospital. I was proud to show her how amazing people are. I ordered pizza tonight we just ate, and then we are going to watch a movie. Can you think of a better night?

Thank you again, I can't thank you enough.

God Bless you, your families, anyone and everyone that was part of this... You humble me.

So what do you want me to do with them? It's your choice, your decision. I will rip every one of them if you want. Not tonight, because I am spending it with my family, but will in the next day or two. You let me know, or just send me a PM.

I emailed Steve and thanked him too. So tonight I hold this moment close and know God spent a bit more time on you. I lift you up with thanks and praise, Thanks for a really special moment and night. This has touched my heart more than any card, case, or whatever I have opened or bought.

  • Wow Mike, that is really awesome. If it was indeed BBCE that sent that to you that was awesome of them to do. It just shows they are a 1st class company. With all that you have been through and all the work you do organizing the group rips you are very deserving of that surprise. If there is anything you ever need please give me a shout out, I'm kind of up the road from you on the south end of The Grand Strand.
  • Mike,

I'm glad it made your day. I participated in this, but it wasn't my idea. I received an email from cincyredlegs, and gladly joined.

On a side note, my wife's mom just died of pancreatic cancer yesterday. The funeral is this Sunday. I've seen my wife go through an
emotional rollercoaster as her mom is the first one to die among our four parents. We saw the pain and struggles her mom went through
    these past three months.

So I can feel you are going through, and am really happy that this little package brought a smile and a tear to your face. These are
the kind of things that make life living for.

    God Bless,
    PM

I was a part of this too... Mike, I don't know you but I feel your emotions. I'm choked up now as I read this. I hate to be repetitive, but I lost my dad to cancer when I was 7...I feel your pain and share in your joys. Praise God from whom ALL blessings flow. I'm thankful that I was able to be a small part of this. I'm not into unopened(yet) wax or busting wax...I'm into cards! So, do whatever YOU want to do with them.

That is just awesome. I was not part of this, but what a great gesture by everyone involved. I can't imagine what you are going through, hopefully this makes it a little easier.

Mike ... I was not a part of the giving either, so I'd like to say what an AWESOME gesture by some of the guys on this board and Steve H. if he was a part of it as well.

You deserve whatever was in that package. You are going thru some very tough times. I want you to know that you are not the only one with tears in your eyes ... lol.

As you already know, I'm here if you need someone to talk to.

God bless Michelle, the kids and you.

  • I say you keep all the packs in the PSA storage box, and every summer on this date, August 19th, you do a live
rip of just one pack. Being that you have over 30 packs, that means 30 years of ripping, and it will be a reminder each year to all of us why we are here on earth, to reach out and touch those of us around us.

My wife's mom received a knitted shall from a bunch of ladies from another church who sit around and knit these shalls, hats, and
other things for people with cancer. When her mom opened the package from people she didn't even know, there was a note that
said this shall is a demonstration of God's love, so wrap yourself with it each day to feel His love for you. She never let go of it until yesterday morning.

  • Was a part of the rip, but not a part of this. Wow is all I can say. Great job folks who pulled this off and thanks Mike for organizing the rips and best to you and your family.

I was only a very small fraction of this package, but I'm very glad Mark put this together for you! You can do whatever you want with them, but if I had my way I would love to see you rip each and every one of those babies!! I know you say you don't receive things well, but I think we can all see how grateful you are and how much this means to you. Enjoy this little escape! image

    Mike,
Your giving me more credit than I have due. The credit comes from the NEARLY 50 PEOPLE who made this happen. They all did this out of the kindness of their hearts. Nobody should ever have to go through the pain you do on a daily basis. But everyone just wanted you to have a few minutes of happiness at the very least this may have brought to you. Enjoy and do what every one of us did as an 9 year old boy........open them!

Second, although I'd love to see you rip every pack, I would say do what brings you the most joy.

While I've only known you a short while, you're a Class A guy and someone I'd consider a friend. Thanks for the group rips, your positive energy, and the overall good vibe you bring to these boards.

Glad we could do something to brighten your day. We're happy you're here and wish you the best.

I also made a small contribution to the cause. My mom has been battling Stage 2 breast cancer, and winning, and I was very touched by your story. I'd also like to thank cincyredlegs for organizing this. Mike - I hope this helps you escape for a few moments in the days to come. Rip or leave unopened, enjoy them as you want!

I'm very impressed with the generousity of the board. I would like to thank Mark for setting this into motion, and thankfully I was able to make a small contribution.

As far as rip or save, I'm a recovering rip addict so good luck with your choice. I know I'd be shaking and hiding in a closet full of wrappers and gum dust.
  • Cincy thank you for organizing this. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in this gift I recieved today. Thank you to those of you who send me PM's, posts, thoughts and prayers all the time.

I think the story here isnt about me or my wife and family. It's what today represented. It's what We all do everyday in our lives. The strength to inspire others is so powerful. The ability to help others, just being there for positive support. That's what this is about.

This is just a form or representation of kindness that we all give to others. A reminder that support, care, love and encouragement are the true jewels in life.

You gave me my greatest card moment ever. I know it can't be replaced or reproduced. What it can do is provide a powerful message. The community that is on these forums, the members, these boards. They are the hero's IMO. And it's not just one of you rather the power of many to impact others in a positive way. I see it happen on here quite a bit.

I will open these over the next few days. I will post scans. I don't know what I will do with the cards. Maybe grade the best ones and create a display in honor of your act of kindness. I won't sell these, I promise you. I want to put something together I can hold on to, reflect back on, and remember this day.

    Thank you, image

It is a gift of love from this little family to yours so enjoy it.

    Joe

Maybe you can have your favorite pack of the bunch slabbed with a special insert and put in your sig line.

  • I will maybe a few from each sport...

Edit: I was just thinking that.. Will PSA put a special insert on a card or pack if I got them slabbed? I know I have seen cards done like that. That would be really special.

I would think they would, even if not graded but just slabbed with a custom insert would be cool.
I am not sure who would know for sure.

I do believe PSA offers a service to add a customized line of text on their slabs, for example "McNall/Gretzky". The pack would still be graded and everything that comes on the slab would be there, only your customized line would be added to the slab.

All I ask in return is 2 things.

    1) I want to be a part of the September group rip. I seem to miss it every single month, and I feel left out! image
    2) If you happen to open your 1980 Topps baseball pack, can you please post pix of the cards and tell us what you got? I'm just curious...

I wish you and your wife well and I pray for her.

    Enjoy the cards...you deserve 'em.

    Later, Paul.
  • Your story and the updates you give regarding your wife (and children) are very powerful, Mike.

I was very excited to be asked to join in on this. Mark (cincyredlegs) did a fantastic job of keeping us updated as he coordinated this.

I sort of follow along with some of the previous posters - save some packs in a display to give you that instant reminder of your surprise upon receiving the package.
