If you haven't seen this show it's really great. The preview of it showed a Jordan RC they'll sell at the end of the show.
Edit: it's only a BGS 6. The guy selling it said he wanted his holy Grail graded by the best in the industry...lol.
Edit 2: they always sell some really great items. This auction company is located somewhere in GA. They just had a 1988 yearbook from Beverly Hills will Angelina Jolie. Cool stuff! 82 mint vette, sorry this show excite!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Kind of fun - it's outside of Atlanta - I believe.
I missed the show you're watching - tho I caught the ending - I think it sold for either 6 or 800$? I just remember thinking - I would want a better bargain in a venue like that - and not a 6.
I think the person over paid?
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
I was watching American Pickers - and one of the guys picked up a case of Red Man tobacco. It looked old.
He put it back down - just imagine if the case were from the early 50s?!

It's only good though if you like auctions vs BIN's... Lol.

You are 100 percent right on with those shows Jeff. Those, sportscenter, and some CNBC, I'm set.

<< <i>I'm currently hooked on American Pickers, Storage Wars & Auction Hunters. Just watching those shows makes me want to buy some storage lockers. Much like busting old wax - I'm sure it's usually a "bust". >>
I like shows like that too Jeff.
On the Storage show - they do disclaim that 80% of the lockers they buy are a bust. The best I saw - I think they netted over 20K on one locker.
I like Pawn Stars but watched Hard Core Pawn - didn't care much for it - ya really don't learn anything - other than some families are really dysfunctional!
I say - if Pawn Stars is Oprah, then Hard Core Pawn is Jerry Springer.
And in the real world of storage wars I know a couple of guys that do it and they pay $$ behind the scenes and get to search the
storage units BEFORE they go to auction. Whenever cash is involved there are crooks.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
BTW - That Jordan sold for $600, and I wasn't paying close attention, but I think it was a Beckett 8 - maybe it was a 6 and I just saw it wrong.
<< <i>Jordan card ... VCP $400.00 Sold for $600.00 Maybe I should ship all my stuff to that auction house! LOL >>
doug thats what i was thinking, $600 for a BGS 6????

<< <i>Those pickers are freaking nuts in my opinion - constantly stirring up and inhaling all that old dust from those storage areas without any breathing safety masks. I'd hate to see an xray of their lungs.

Those guys may be dorks, but at least they aren't total pu$$ies. "Breathing safety masks"

I kept telling the wife that that Jordan rc was worth $300 tops...and that the folks bidding on it were silly.

Aren't these the guys who pick and buy a lot of old car and motorcycle parts? They would be well advised to wear breathing safety masks going thru and handling these old parts...and who knows what else is in that general dust from the other stuff they pick.

Pads and Brake Linings - Asbestos
Asbestos pads were multi-functional and provided excellent heat resistance in each of its applications. Several years ago, you could find asbestos pads in the home as ironing board covers or pads for the stove top. However, the most common application of asbestos pads has been on cars. These brake pads worked great because they were flame-retardant and did not bind easily. Even though asbestos pads and linings worked great, what was often not discussed was the real danger asbestos posed to anyone that came in contact with it. And even though most asbestos applications were banned in the '70s, the asbestos pad can still be found to this day in some cars.
What is the danger here? Well, when you drive around, the asbestos pad is put to work each time you break. Now, while it does its job, it’s going to wear down a bit. The asbestos pad creates dust as it wears down. This dust is released into the air as you drive. However, most of this toxic dust is contained and trapped within the clutch or brake. You might be thinking that this is good because it’s out of the way and not hurting anyone? Wrong!
The real problem here comes when it’s time to repair a car. You take your car into the shop and the mechanic comes face to face with the trapped asbestos dust, most definitely inhaling it. Or, if you’re the type of person that likes to work on your own car, you could be exposed to the dust from the asbestos pads. This puts you at risk for inhaling those microscopic asbestos fibers and you can even get the dust on your hands and clothes. Once you go back inside, your whole family is at risk for exposure.
Asbestos exposure is very serious and has very serious consequences. Even though you may not experience any symptoms for up to 30 years after exposure, upon inhaling asbestos fibers, one may have asbestosis, lung cancer or mesothelioma. Asbestosis causes scarring of the lungs, leading to permanent damage of the lungs. Mesothelioma is a cancer of the membranes surrounding the heart, lungs and abdomen. It typically has a poor prognosis because by the time symptoms are apparent, it is in the advanced stages.
If you think your car has asbestos pads and brake linings, take it to a mechanic with your concerns.
<< <i>I watched as well - definitely a Beckett 6, and definitely sold for $600 - about $200 over VCP! >>
I Googled it - You're right...it was a 6.

Agreed. But they are entertaining. I wouldn't be surprised if the producers of Storage Wars "seeded" some of the lockers
to make it more "exciting". One episode one of the buyers opened a trunk full of ball cards and they were strewn around as if thrown
in. Who stores cards this way? Why is it that only the people participating in the show Storage Wars seem to win the auctions?

I don't see how they could script the storage wars as far as the auction content. I think there are state or local laws in place regulating how these auctions are transacted. However as far as the bidders, i guess the show could help them with their expenses to get there, etc, but i think the actual auction procedure is likely legit. Maybe I'm wrong.
In any event, I agree...it is good entertainment.
I saw one unauthenticated Honus Wagner auto sell for almost 2K on a old program for a awards dinner.
I saw a unauthenticated Clemente auto sell for right at 1K, on a ball, that was IMO very fake.
Also a guy had over 50 unauthenticated Kobe Bryant autos and sold them all for over 25 a piece most on crap cards like Circa's or Leaf R&S.
Don't even start on the vintage cards bringing over NM beckett book value when they have creases and pin holes.
Pretty silly stuff

I once attended an auction many years ago, a big electronics company went out of business and the auction was held right on the site of the company...I wanted to buy a used office machine which had a $795 list price brand new, usually sold retail for around $650 - figured I would pick it up for around $200 and hopefully a lot less less - it sold for $900+ at the auction.
<< <i>Pickers is my favorite, and yes those guys are a little whacked out. They though se to always offer fair rates to what they buy. But you are right, they are probably getting exposed to some nasty stuff. Motorcycle and car stuff is definitely their specialty, old signs too! >>
I don't think they can justify using gas, driving across the country, wearing out their van, and other time and expenses for the "fair rates" they offer seen on the show, and I agree those are fair rates. But I have a feeling the "steals" they get with significant profit margin, they likely don't have those on the show for a number of reasons, primarily of which I don't think they would want to display and showoff something whereby someone they did business with may feel they got taken and ripped off - just my opinion.
All those searches they have done across the country I am sure have earned them a pretty penny, nevermind the show money. Good for them. It seems to be the most liked show.
My new favorite starts this fall from last year, Gold Rush, I can't wait!!!!! I didn't miss an episode last year.

<< <i>I agree 100% Steve. I tell my wife that every time we watch it. The big scores if you will don't get shown. They have had a couple here and there where they make a few thousand on a deal, or estimate it, but that's it.

I'll never forget on Pawn Stars, a lady came in with a piece of jewelry, i think it would be called a brooch of some sort, and when asked how much she wanted, she said "two thousand" and then Rick said words to the effect that I can't rip ya off, and offered her fifteen thousand (I'm not kidding) which of course she gladly accepted. Well...if the cameras weren't on good ol' honest Rick, in my opinion, he would have pulled 20 hundred dollar bills out of his pocket faster than the speed of light, handed it to her, and then after she left the staff would have congratulated him about the big score. LOL

Here's the video. When he said $15,000, she then wanted $17,000 for it! But, she eventually settled for $15,000.
As far as Pickers go they just dont go out and grab what they think is cool. They are kind of head hunters for lack of better word. If a guy needs a certain type of motor cycle part that no one else can find they call them. They get quite a bit of their business in that fashion.
What really got them off the ground was was they were contracted to gather items for the National Motorcycle museum in Anamosa Iowa.

<< <i>Did anyone catch the new show on Fox called Buried Treasure? Great show and by Keno brothers. Tonight was the season premier. Worth watching!! >>
Saw it last week and tonite.
Very entertaining show - the Keno brothers are well known from the Antique Roadshow - they seem to care about the people and have super enthusiasm!
Last week a guy had a couple of first edition silver age comics - Hulk and Spiderman - unfortunately both were altered and not very well done. He did wind up selling the Spiderman for $5400.
He did have a very rare Superman cel from 1941 - artist Max Fleischer. Two gents from Metropolis in NYC offered him 58K - he turned it down. I think that may have been smart since they were probably leaving "flip" room in the offer - how much? I'm clueless.
Good show - tho I recommend recording it - since they "cliff hang" every authentication with a lengthy commercial.
Can never have too many Mikes. I'll have to check it out that show, but I love those American Pickers!!!

<< <i>If Storage Wars wasn't scripted, then I would think that some rich person would just show up and buy every locker that they auction. He'd instantly be a new TV star. >>
I saw an interview with a producer of Storage Wars and they typically only show the auctions won by one of the main characters. He said that people do show up trying to get on tv and they just get edited out for the most part. He also said that they are many lockers purchased by the main cast that don't get on tv because they were garbage and not interesting. These auctions are governed by State laws, so they can't script them or have the auctioneer favor one bidder over another.

American Pickers is still my favorite but my 11 year old digs Storage Wars and as a result I am now a viewer.
Mike recently opened a shop here in Nashville. It's small but very cool.
Plenty of t-shirts and other stuff for sale from the show! He knows how to make a buck!
Robert
Too funny.
They are all doing good at their stores, which is good to see. Even Jared who is well a bit rough around the edges seems to have a good business.
I still can't wait for Gold Rush which should be coming soon!
