Does anyone care to predict how PM's will do this week?

The markets will open in Asia in 8 hours. Check your crystal balls and let us know what you think. image

I would recommend one of those soothsayer services with a reliable crystal ball. image

Make sure the prediction if it's wrong, comes with a money back guarantee. image

I think there will be buyers and there will be sellers. Price will tell us which one outnumbers the other.

My opinion is that there will be more sellers than buyers with gold and with silver in the first hour of action.

  • I'm not big on predictions. That said, I heard an interesting bit about margin requirements. The thinking is that most little fish speculators in gold are short. They have been short since before the budget deal and are getting slaughtered. Raising margin requirements might force them to cover, pushing gold higher in the short term. As always with this kind of thinking, it is near impossible to tell where folks are actuall positioned, and if they are little fish, or big fish, but I thought it interesting.

I can't speak to Gold because it's really not my thing, but I believe Silver has finished the week in the $39-40 range the last 4 weeks in a row. Up & down, but FINISHED the week in that range.
Alot of money got flushed out of Silver and into Gold this past week and Silver still finished in that $39-40 range. The CME raised margin requirements on Gold and that bruised Gold a bit, but look where it's still at in the scheme of things. Through this, Silver is firmly flatlined in a tight 1 month range.
Is this the week Silver breaks through the way Gold did? I'm going to say no. If Silver didn't come along for the ride with Gold this past week, I have a hard time believing it will run on it's own if Gold continues to slide a little due to the CME thing.
All, of course, jmho...I continue to sell more than buy going forward in the near term.

Ag last four weeks (Friday Kitco close) and corresponding GSR:

    07/24 $40.07 GSR 39.94
    07/31 $39.90 GSR 40.78
    08/07 $38.32 GSR 43.41
    08/14 $39.07 GSR 44.70

FWIW, the highest GSR in 2011 (on a Friday closing basis) is 48.76

my crystal ball is still in the shop image but my WAG would be it opens flat to slightly down.

  • The fear trade that drove up gold last week seems to have subsided for the moment. I would expect a $20-$30 down week in gold and a slight appreciation in silver to drop the G/S ratio to around 42.

    we will tickle $40 again
  • Either silver and gold make a strong move lower or they will move higher. That may sound hedgy but the down move should be strong, if its not then it will trend higher

I hoping for a correction over the next several weeks..... thus a buying opportunity. Gold (GLD) has broken out of it's top trend line with the RSI, MACD and Slow STO all showing extremely over bought. If it bounces off the lower trend line.... I'm going all end...long.

Successful traders have a saying: “Avoid the middle like the plague.” Basically what this means is that you can make money in the short run and you can make money in the long run, but the middle is often a fog.
