Does anyone have a picture of Izzy Switt?

saintgurusaintguru Posts: 7,727 ✭✭✭
I've never seen one, but I have an image of him as a short, balding, slightly hunched-over, 50-something guy wearing his pants too high and chomping on a wet cigar all day long. That's the stereotypical old-school Arch Street jewelry, coin dealer.

I couls see Danny DeVito play him in the movie, "Izzy's Switt's Excellent Adventure." image

If you have a pic of him, POST it please. I googled his name and there were lots of coins and a pic of Richard Nixon! image Izzy didn't look that that putz!

I Googled it AL. If you do so too, you'll see the pic of Nixon that I mentioned. Now was Izzy Nixon or that guy with the stuff in his hands?

Oh...that handsome pic of me was when I was about 30 pounds heavier. I'm a lean and mean 200 pounds now! That's fighting weight! image

I would assume that the man with the large silver sombrero is indeed Mr. Switt.

Why do you want a pic of Izzy Switt? Seems like a strange request.

The man was deadly as hell with a revolver-- he could "shoot the eye out of a one-eyed jack at 30 paces" ( Buffalo Bill's America: William Cody and the Wild West Show, page 144) and slept with a pet monkey named Jocko that he won in a poker match.

His wife, Elizabeth, worked with him in the store. I would guess that that was her. Her brother, Edward Silver, was Switt's silent partner.

I saw a VERY interesting show, on the Smithsonian channel....titled 'Hunt for The Double Eagle'. Anyone else see it? Very interesting piece in the tracking down of the '33 Double Eagles. Seems the 'chief cashier' named George McCann admittited to stealing coins from the Mint in Philly, and did a year in the slammer..., linking him to Switt. VERY interesting piece, that doesn't seem to be on again anytime soon. Here's the link to a 50 second clip....I DO have it on the DVR, and have a DVD recorder, so......

They say you can see full episodes on the site, but I can't find the full episode on this one.
    I'll come up with something.

And if you search Google images, you get Howlin' Wolf in the 2nd row.

Would Snoop Dogg call him "Izzizzy?"

That is interesting , very much so. I can't recall if it was mentioned in the copious threads surrounding these coins that the cashier from the phillie mint done time in the pokey for nicking coins.

David Tripp's book Illegal Tender, page 166, contains this same photograph. Tripp identifies the man in the center of the photograph as Israel Switt, taken in July, 1944. As we know, Mr. Switt was also known as "Izzy."
