Some older unopened material

Hello. I have been reading the boards here for awhile and I thought I would like to join in with your card discussions. I have already posted a couple of messages on the unopened stars on top thread, and I thank CPAMike for showing me how to use Photobucket, but I thought i would start a thread introducing myself and showing a few of tthe things I collect. My first collecting of cards was a little in 1967 and I remeber clearly at the end of the season my mother telling me that a local 5 and ten store was clearing out all of their baseball packs and batman packs for like a penny a pack. She asked me what I wanted and of course i said i want batman packs. DOH. I started buying some cards after that and I almost collected a complete 1971 set from packs. After 1975 I stoppedcollecting to go to college but while there I met a friend who bought cases of cards and made sets. This got me back interested and when I graduated in 1980 I started full force into collecting again. Early on in 1980 I fell in love with collecting unopened material and while I was also working on sets I really tried to build my collecton of unopened boxes and packs. I met another person in the area who also collected cards and liked unopened material so we started working together to find items. He was also a dealer named Billy caldwell who used the name packman (after all that was the time of pacman). I helped him at 2 national conventions in new jersey in 84 and Arlington in 86 and was able to pick up a lot of items. But by the time the early 90's rolled around i was getting pretty tired of the ever increasing number of card companies and the use of chase cards. Since I always liked to collect a case, a box, and a pack of each product, too many companies was too much hassle. So, I have prettymuch stopped collecting anything since 1990 except for a few odd current boxes here and there. So while I do have alot of older cards and sets the unopened material is close to my heart. I thought i woud make this thread to show some of the unopened stuff I have. While i mainly concentrated on wax I will start off showing some of the older rack pack i have. I will try to get some pictures of my unopened boxes a little later. I hope you unopened collectors enjoy the pictures and i am always interested in seeing others.
I forgot to mention I am a big Cardinals fan and will try to post some pics of my older cardnial cards later especially my Musials.

I love the 1966 and 1967 rack packs. Very difficult items to find as any unopened rack pack collector will tell you.

Any unopened Baseball cello and rack packs and boxes from the 1970's and early 1980s.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Interesting with the 1966 rack pack - I wouldn't have guessed that a ruboff would have been included in a rack pack...I would have figured the ruboffs were only in the waxpacks.
I never have seen a 59 football rack pack before. All I can say is thanks for sharing.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
As a side note to this thread. to show you how times have changed. As I mentioned earlier I went to my first National Convention I think in 84. Geldman's had a hotel room and I had a chance to go up and go thrugh these stacks of mint star cards from the middle 60's through the middle 70's which seemed a great price even then. I was able to buy 5 or 10 of a card easily. I still have those cards in plastic today and I will try to scan some later. Also, at the end of one of the days all the dealers at the show gathered in a room saw a couple of quick presentations about sites for the next years National and then did a quick vote to decide where it would be. I am sure it is much different now where they have these locations planned out years in advance.
Well anyway thats a little background of buying unopened back then. I hae lots of other pack prices listed from people but I would think most of thm are gone from the hobby by now. I am glad you enjoyed the packs

I saved the ad to remember prices from then. I did purchase a box of the 54 Bowman FB 5 cent packs. After all, they were the rare Koufax-Killebrew series

Do you have any 70's unopened cello or rack boxes or just the individual packs and wax boxes? I'd love to see pictures of any that you have. Thanks for sharing.

Was the availability there of say a case from a few years prior if you wished to purchase one. Was new material available at wholesale or would you have to pay retail even if you wanted a case. Retail price was so cheap back then I can't imagine picking it up for less. People always talk about how the collecting boom didn't start until the late 80's but obviously there were folks flipping and stashing away unopened material way back then. >>

i thought i'd known of someone who actually purchased some of those from Rosen, but it turns out i was wrong.....he never got anything from that particular find.
the reason i was curious was because i had an old consignor's receipt of his from an auction held in 2004.
turns out the item i remembered was a 1955 Bowman FB wax box which was purchased several years prior. it sold for almost 34,000 bucks.
that stuff was underpriced.

For rack packs 1967 and older Topps just wrapped up 3 individual cello packs (see the descriptions in the ads below), so if there was an insert in the cello packs they should be there in the rack packs. Here are a few Topps sell sheets advertising raks from the 60's, John:

Of course hindsight is always 100% right. I'd be fairly certain there were similar ads for vintage mint postage stamps during that time in which as some may already know, interest in stamp collecting has fallen thru the floor. Ya never know for sure...and as we post, somewhere out there right now is an ad for a collectible that nobody has much interest in, in which that item will be worth a small fortune in around 20 years.
