1980's Monster Sub with a PSA 10 Gem Mint 1989 Fleer Glossy Ken Griffey Jr....Scans added

I just got these grades today and I am supper pumped!!!

The only bummer was the Kerry Von Erich which was a BGS 9.5x4 Gem Mint crackout and it came back a PSA 8 NM-Mt.

    Hallco,

I was thinking it could be a PSA 9 and was not expecting a PSA 10. As I have said many times they are no where near as tough on the Wrestling All Stars.

A PSA 8 Kerry Von Erich is still a great card. I will lose money on this one though for sure but it is only on paper as I am not a seller.

Yes I recently bought two sealed 89 Fleer Glossy from BBCX and nailed the Gem Mint Griffey. I posted it as a raw scan on here about two months ago.

The 85 Tiffany I have had on display for the past 8 years or so and decided to get them graded. The same with the Griffey Jr. Bowman Tiffany.

The 84 PSA 9 Clemens came from the same set as the Puckett Gem Mint 10 I got and was also on display. In 1998 this was my prized possesion and I thought I was rich image

I recently sold the Puckett on EBAY.

The 84 Topps Tiffany Gooden is a EBAY raw buy from the past month or so.

The two Tyson PSA 9's I got from the seller in Cyprus and I plan on busting the sealed box I have in the mail from him and going for a 10.

The second year Tyson came from Martin Bradford about a year ago when I first started buying Tyson cards.

Must be yet another sign of Beckett's demise. You realize it's not Beckett's fault when you damage a card while doing a crack out, right?

Comical post. There was no damage to the card what so ever.

Are you going to be selling the Clemens? That's the only card I need to complete his rookie run.

Here is an example of a BGS 9.5 that will grade no higher then a PSA 8. This card is terribly off centered top to bottom.

You most likely will never see a PSA 10 Hogan because of centering. The same holds true for Kerry Von Erich.

    BGS 9.5 Hogan

Yes I will sell the Clemens. Once I get it back I will PM you and we can discuss a price.

Somehow, given your propensity for exaggeration, I'm doubting that.

Well, obviously you're making that determination based on top/bottom centering and, I agree, it does look off but it's hard to make a measurement from T/B with a picture taken from that angle. I would consider the border to to begin from the end of the white point in the top right corner.

Here's an example of a "PSA 10" from a set that I collect. This card is all but impossible to find properly centered and I would consider this border to be quite off T/B but it's in a "10" holder nonetheless:

    PSA 10

Here's a more properly centered Topps version:

    Properly Centered

And here's another PSA 10 example from the same set, off T/B:

    PSA 10 #2

Here you go though, you can just sweep it under this:

    Thank you.

This is my biggest pull ever by far.

  • Yeah I want one of those. There is 1 Griffey Glossy PSA 10 up now. Bidding at $661 with 3 plus days. That card has to have a lot of attention. I'm guessing, but I would pay a grand for that card, which really, I think it can go up near 2K.

It's really the best card from 82 to 92, and certainly for a base card if you will, not in the jersey, game used era. 93 brings Jeter. But for a solid decade that's the one. Non steroid user, and the one that brought me closer to the game as a teenager.

The last one on EBAY sold for $1,276.

There is a fraction of these compared to the Upper Deck.

This is a keeper for me.

    Too funny!

I was just telling my neighbor Jason that no one had noticed that card.

That is a major Wrestling card!!!

  • kingbeeswaxkingbeeswax Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭
Yes it is. Any OPC in that grade is, with that being one of the most wanted cards. I am going for a Hogan #1 PSA 10(I might have told you this before). I have 16 or 17 from 55 rack packs going to PSA in August along with more from the set.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
A Hogan PSA 10 #1 from the 1985 WWF Topps set would be $500+++++++++

I would be interested in a card like that.

The Macho Man PSA 9 is a total stunner. I bought 10 sets from Canada Collect and got an extra Macho. This was the gem of the bunch.

At some point I am going to sub some other cards from the set.

Amazing submission, man - those Tyson's are awesome, too! I'm happy mine is the UK version - because you would have destroyed it's pop 1 status. Congrats again!

Congrats on the Griffey Glossy PSA 10.

Which card is tougher in high grade the Bowman Tiffany or the Fleer Glossy?

Wow- I had no idea how tough that glossy Griffey RC really was. Congratulations on that- it's one heck of a hit.

I went through a lot of cards to put this toghether hoping for some big hits.

    Yikes!

I sure hope I get more then one for $675.

I plan to sub some of the other stickers to try and recoup some of the cost.

I just picked up a few packs on ebay. I'm pretty interested to see what else is in this set. I think the only other rookies are carl lewis and greg norman. Some of the other boxing and basketball in a high grade could sell well too... I think. I'm not even 100 percent sure this is the same set that the carl lewis and greg norman are from. For some reason I thought there 600 cards in this set but think I confused it with a set from the 70s. I haven't seen a card over 225 so think you should expect 2 to 3 tysons. Does anyone know if you can see the top or bottom card in the pack. This would be a pretty cool unopened pack with a star on top

I plan to sub some of the other stars like Steffi Graf and Greg Lamond.

Any really dominate athlete should do okay in high grade.

The basketball stars are needed in player registry sets so they could do okay too.

There are 221 cards in the set and there are 600 cards in the box. 100 packs with six cards per pack. There is a Carl Lewis in there. I have a single somewhere in my collection. That would be a cool one graded or signed.

Why did the Topps Tiffany Griffey get only an 8? It is centered better than most you see, as they are often found off-center side-to-side.

    Nice stuff!!
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I think the centering was just a touch off and the corners are barely touched. It is a very high end PSA 8 for sure.

    Thank you.

I raced to the post office to pick them up at 8:30 this morning.

This was one of the cases where I certainly did not pay for enough insurance there and back. I usually guess high just in case but not high enough this time.

  • Dpeck,

Very nice sub. Some of the 'rock star' cards from the 80's and all with good grades! Well Done!

Please don't take this the wrong way, both of the 85 Tiffanys seemed to have yellowed and both have a really really opc-like cut on the bottom. Neither defect kept either one from a PSA 9 slab. What is your opinion on these two cards?

Really not trying to down talk your sub, overall it is one that we all would be proud to find in our own mailbox.
    Scoreboard Malfunction
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yes they both have an OPC ruff cut on the edges. In terms of yellowing it may be the scan.

Both came from a factory set and are sharp cards. I am a terrible judge of condition on ruff cut cards with very little experience.

I sent them in with an open mind and they both came back PSA 9 Mint. I will leave it up to PSA on these.

Some times scans can be misleading.

Is the Griffey tilted in the holder or is it cut that way...

The Mike Tyson and Randy Savage were the two cards I was looking for. I wanted both of these in Mint condition.

I am very pleased with many of the others and have a few up and may consider a few more.
