Completely and totally off topic - tape removal from paint

Ok - I don't normally venture off topic, but maybe someone here can help me out. I had a weird car accident awhile back in which a bar came down (kinda like the ones at railroad crossings) and hit my car during a storm and took out the driver's and rear side windows of my car. Insurance covered it, but the back window had to be ordered and it took a couple of weeks to get it in. So, in the meantime, I took some plastic and taped it over the hole. I used clear packaging tape. The window eventually got repaired and all is good, except... I can't get the tape off of my car. I've tried goo products and some orangy stuff from Target that says it removes tape. No luck. Anyone got any ideas without me scratching the heck out of my paint?

  • Lacquer(sp?) thinner should do the trick. That is what we used when I worked in a body shop.It would take everything from tape to tar off.

I think you could try WD-40. I use it all the time for tape residue.

    Good Luck!

Sandblasting will certainly remove all of the tape residue . . . and the paint.

We have to remove tape and tape residue from products at work all the time (rental company with tables/chairs/tents, etc) and we use a product called Citro made by Shipps Chemicals out of Conyers, GA. (No I don't work for them). It has a heavy citrus smell and eats right through the tape stuff. You could probably find something similar at your local hardware store.

    Citro Link

    Scroll down to Citro.

Sweet. Thanks guys. I'm going to give a couple of these a shot (Sorry Scott... gonna have to try the sandblaster only as a last resort).
