He brought with him 800 settlers. All that remains is a restored Baptist Church from the 1800's and a cemetery with headstones that have American names on them. Many date before the civil war. Earliest headstone was dated 1800. Some say born in Miss. or Alabama, South Carolina and died in Brazil.
One headstone read, "J.L. Minchin, Age 84, Confederate Veteran, Native of U.S., Went to rest 18-6-1927." Many of their ancestors are buried here too in family plots. Very interesting piece of history to stumble upon.
Anyway, Happy Fourth to those who had ancestors that remained in the States...
