"Exhibit"ing Curiosity about 1947-66 Exhibits

On the off chance these aren't reprints I thought I would post a picture and ask the question. The one on the left is a for sure 1947-66 Exhibit whereas the one on the right is odd. I have a group of 8 that includes Ennis, Zernial, Ashburn (Cubs), Fox, Vernon, McDougald and Woodling. As you can see they are cropped closer, a bit smaller, pictures look flatter and have whiter backs (although not stark white backs). Anyway, I've never noticed reprints of guys like Ennis, Zernial etc. but thought I would check the collective knowledge.

Also, how much size variation do you get with Exhibits? I have a stack that I'm going through and have some suspicion about trimming on some but it appears even some of the ones with wear show a bit of variation.

Thanks for the help

  • As I understand it, the cream colored backs are real and the white ones are reproductions.

Authentic cards are only found with the cream color back like card on the left, ........the white and gray backs are modern reprints.

Also both cards you show are really different cards...
The card on the left is from the 1954-56 subset known as "Plain Signatures", there are 30 cards in the set (including Kaline and Banks "rookies").
The card on the right is a reprint of a card known as Zernial "script signature", it would be from the 1957-61 Era
