Love the original color.
On both coins, really. Nothing beats originality.

I also like the first one. Is it for sale? Seriously.

I also like "the look" of the AU 55.
That said, if I were asked which coin is in a more original state based solely on these images – I would immediately choose the AU 58.
My opinion would be that the AU 55 has been cloth wiped at some point and allowed to re-tone. On the other hand, I would posit that the AU 58 when straight from pocket to collection and has remained (more or less) in that pocket state.
<< <i>Fascinating.

How original does something need to be?
If it's PCGS and CAC I think the market would bear out that it is a "good coin"
If you reject any coin that has been tilted sideways at some point you will have a hard time finding a coin for your collection.
There is no way the top coin sells for less than the bottom coin in an auction.

As original as the prospective buyer desires and believes it to be?
Other than my personal preference on "the look" of the first coin, I make no claim on the marketability of either coin. I'm simply offering my own opinion on the comparative originality of the two coins in question.
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
I would bet similar photography techniques on both would make the AU58 seem a lot less dull.

<< <i>Could the disparity in opinions here be (to some degree) related to the photos and lighting differences?

<< <i>The 55 looks like it got a bump for its color. The 58 looks like an honest grade to me. If the 58 has luster in the protected areas, I think it's the nicer coin. >>
Yes , the 58 has luster in the protected areas plus some subtle toning in gold and blue that my pics do not show.

The AU58 also has a far better strike.

Me too.
<< <i>Glad i'm not the odd one out saying i like the 55 better. >>
How can that be? Everyone knows 58 is better than 55. The OP says this is an upgrade. Why is everyone being so contradictory??
The 55 is nice and really catches one's eye. It photographs well and I am sure would bring a good price in an online auction.
Digital photography and the internet have made life hard for some really superb coins. That's why we still need people, experts, to examine them and offer us their opinions.
That may be challenging....

Agree 100%
That being said, I'm not a huge fan if either unfortunately, especially not for the date...

<< <i>Or maybe those pics suck.
Yes they do.
Beyond belief!
