Tough to tell from the photo... gold can wear to XF-AU and still be shiny. Also, gold is soft and can have honest wear that emulates hairlines.

Edited to add: Lights can reflect on gold and give the appearance of luster. Photos are tough to grade/evaluate.

My interpretation of the surfaces are that the coin has acquired hairlines from usage and storage rather than an aggressive cleaning. Gold picks up hairlines very easily and they show up in images without even trying to highlight them. Again, my interpretation based on the images would be that it was not aggressively cleaned.

I thought it was going to be a seated dollar image lol

Nice coin regardless though... image if it was cleaned, out looks market acceptable based on the pics.

Judging from the photographs, I would say not cleaned..... gold is very soft and easily marked and yours has seen some 'travel'. Cheers, RickO

Nice coin! There is a lot of pressure on type II's from hungry type collectors. I would say Au 58 or MS 61 if sent to PCGS. Does the rim nick have any solder in it?

no, i don't see any signs of solder. but right now, i am only using a 5x loop. that rim nick and the circ wear are all i notice.

Heres mine, this is an NGC MS62 It appears to be from the same obverse/reverse die pairing. There is a shared squiggly mark from the star at 1 oclock on the obverse, and on the reverse the T in united has the same little curved line above it. Neat. When you see things like this, especially on dollar gold, it is a good hallmark for authenticity. Your coin dosent show the die clash mine does, unless its a camera angle thing. Cleaned? I dont think so. Grade? AU58 or MS61

On looking at this, it appears your reverse is a tad weaker. This could be from a relapping AFTER my coin was struck.

It looks decent to me and in the 58-61 grade range, though I am no gold expert.

Looks original and authentic which isn't a given for this series. Looks either AU58 or MS61. Can we get better pics?

great posts everyone...i feel pretty confident about it. esp. ambro51. it's great to see it shares some die characteristics! yours is a very close example which makes interesting comparison. no doubt yours is a better example...but mine is close behind.

It looks natural to me, with a lot of luster. I don't see anything that resembles a harsh cleaning. Nice!

yup, i agree. if it graded 61, i would have been surprised. i paid in the vf/xf range for it (depending on where you look) so I am very pleased.
