Personally I've always liked Jefferson Nickels in general but never collected them.

Definitely like. I have a nice set of them. 11 coins I believe. Always liked the big mintmark and the history. And they tone nice too!

I like the silver, and the luster/tone that comes with it. Jeffs look good in silver.

In the 60s, a Gem set of them was a big deal and cost around $30. They were very popular, like Unc. rolls of Rd 55 S Cents and Gem 50 D Nickels. I think these nickels are attractive, but have never collected them, either.

The silver and the big mintmarks are a selling point.

I love the war nickels, but have never actively collected them. I have a few just because I liked the large mintmarks. But help me out with the date set. Obviously, the 1942 D is not included in the set---why is that? Also, is the 1942 P a Tl or Tll that is included in the set and again, why? Thanks for the info.

I have a couple of sets . . . 1 in Capital plastic and another that has been in a Wayte Raymond page for a several years . . .
Guess I need to dig that one out and take a look ! ! !

I've never been much of a nickel collector. They were something to just plug into the holes of a Whitman folder. Even as a kid in the 1950's, the nickel wasn't nearly as important to me as were the silver coins. Thus, I did save the war nickels.

But, a few years ago, I bought two MS sets of Jefferson's that had been housed in Wayte Raymond pages since the coins were minted. I suddenly saw the true beauty of a toned MS War nickel. And, honestly, they excite me these days when I see such wonderful toned coins. Bob [supertooth]

I did a set all in PCGS MS65 and the 42 Proof type2 with a Gem 45 DDR(PCGS 66) in NGC 65 for under 300$. Its my fun set that I keep at home and not in the safety deposit box to toy with.

Because they are cheap with a cool story and even non collectors find it interesting that copper was needed more than silver in WW2, it is the perfect set to keep around the house and low enough value not to need an insurance rider policy.
