He thrilled the fans in the stands with his play, stood up to injustice and changed the face of baseball forever. Few athletes have impacted the lives of Americans as did Jackie Robinson.

not quite the end of the story though... many of us consider the First Spouse Gold series a commemorative series and the mintages of some of them are below that of the Robinson coins.

I have two Jackie Robinson $5 gold coins in Proof. One is in my two piece Proof set. The other is in my wooden box set which also contains a cloth patch, a shiny baseball card and a pin. I bought it because it completed my wooden box commemorative set.

As for rarity, a mintage of 5,000 for the Uncirculated variety with a survival ratio of almost 100% does not a rarity make. The price has been run up; the promotion is over.

As for Jackie, he deserves our respect because of all the garbage he took from racists, including, sadly, one of my teams, the Phillies. The Phillie manager, who I think was Mayo Smith, was a jackass. He was a very good player, but busting down the barriers was his greatest contribution to baseball.

Just looking at FeeBay...they're asking big $ for Jackie gold Uncs. but very few are selling and no MS70s have sold. Hard to know what the market is when they're not selling....

I bought an NGC MS70 at the Balto. show a few years back for $4200. I still feel that I overpaid. These would seem to have a long way to fall...

Well , they are rare in realistic terms and have had a steady increase in value over the past ten years .

I think Mr. Hall hiself wrote that it's a solid investment and undervalued at this time ..........
