Yeah Dpeck, I forget the 86 one is a rookie and gets all the hype. I just purchased a raw second year so maybe i'll get that graded if it's nice enough.
His second year card graded in high grade will do awesome in an auction too. The second year has a lot more strong examples becuase it is more like a card. It is a much stronger paper stock and two sided.
I am super bullish on rare Mike Tyson cards and think they are in the process of a huge move higher. If people will still buy Marck Mcgwire, Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, and many others they will buy Tyson.
He was the most physicaly dominate fighter ever and that is worth something. I am from the Mike Tyson Punchout era and trust me any of the collectors from this era with a little dough will want this card in high grade.
there was an "1985" panini psa 8.5 on ebay a few days ago.. but don't see it anymore and its not in completed listings. is that the card that was going for 250?
I have no way of predicting the long term of this card but the short term is much higher.
I have been bullish on this card since it was a VCP $25 card and we are maybe in the fourth inning.
I have put my name on a few cards and I feel 100% confident this is the next mega card. A final selling price of $258 is just the begining of the big money sale prices for graded examples of this card.
Only time will tell.....but I feel I am on the money with this one.
Just got this bad boy in the mail today from the same seller in Cyprus. Super strong item but clearly off centered enough to keep it out of a PSA 9 holder.
I decided to pull the trigger and buy this sealed box from the same seller. There are 100 packs and 6 stickers per pack so a lot of chances at some nice Mike Tyson's and others from the set. It will be about two weeks I would guess until it arrives and hoping to get some 10's of some stars from the set.
cool purchase. i've never thought of looking for sealed product. should be a fun rip. i think the set is pretty huge though. Hopefully you will score a few tysons. Could psa use the box to determine the correct year and correct the pop report? The only other "rookie" that i think is in the 85-86 set is carl lewis and greg norman. good luck.. i'm interested to see how you do.
I still can't find a checklist but I believe there are 200 in the set. With 600 stickers in the box the hope is to find a few Tyson's that are centered. If so I am in good shape.
I'm excited to see how that box turns out. I also believe that set is around 200 cards.
BTW - I decided to put the PSA 9 Tyson rookie up on a 10-day auction. I received a few offers, but I more curious than anything to see how it does in an auction.
I'm blown away by how well these raw Tyson rookies are doing on eBay. Most are closing between $150-$200. I submitted both of my Tyson QOS cards to SGC this week. It's a shame PSA doesn't grade them.
his cards are selling really well right now. I just got 50 bucks for the kayo promo which was less than a 5 dollar card a year ago. Prices are still climbing on the raw panini's too. The supply is starting to increase though on ebay. should settle in at about 100-125 raw is my guess. I remember waiting for months for one to pop up on ebay. Unfortunately i got into a bidding war with dpeck on the first one i've seen on ebay.. i haven't seen the card come down since. If a psa 10 ever pops up though it could bring big $$$ and push the prices up again.
<< <i> If a psa 10 ever pops up though it could bring big $$$ and push the prices up again. >>
I was thinking the same thing. It's a pretty tough card to find well centered with nice corners, so it might be a while before a PSA 10 pops up. Congrats on the Kayo card - you've got to be pleased with that price.
This card will sit nicely in my PC. I really thought this was going to 600 to 700, I'm siked at just over $400.
See the way I look at that card, i would rather own the Tyson than 2 Upper Deck Griffey 10's. There will be another PSA 9 that comes around, maybe even a 10 someday. But, this product is not easy to come by.
Congrats on your win. I was definitely expecting it to go higher, but I'm happy it's going to a good home. And it's just icing on the cake that it's going to another CU board member. Congrats again!
This is the first nice raw Tyson to surface in months. It will be interesting to see how this finishes with such a long gap between the last one on EBAY.
It appears that the seller in Cyprus ran out of nice raw Tyson's about six months ago so it is very possible there are very few left ungraded.
He did sell a few boxes during this time so if those get busted a few more could surface but I do not think there are many.
There have not been any hit the pop report since my last submission in late April.

Thanks for the response.
I ended up buying a true Italian PSA 10 in 2014. The raw stickers I purchased worked out great and I landed five PSA 9's and two PSA 8's from this hunt. Thankfully only sold one copy and it was a PSA 8 for $400.
The signed rookie has 46 and the PSA 9 has 53. It seems as if some of the marque rookie cards that had such a big run up a few years ago and then pulled back some are starting to move back up. These two are indeed Italian copies. The final minutes will be very interesting on these two I would bet.

I crack up reading some of my old posts.
The Tyson rookie isn’t done. It is going to take another leg higher in the next few years. It had such an explosive move higher it was destined to pull back some and consolidate the gains.
I noticed in the SMR price guide they had the PSA 6 and the PSA 7 Italian going down and I thought what the heck gave them that idea. You will notice that both of these examples are labeled as Italian but are the UK version. Unfortunately early on PSA wasn't very consistent on labeling them and so a very large percentage of them are mislabeled so if you are in the market for one make sure you look at the back to determine what you are willing to pay. A few years back I made it clear that there would be divergence coming because the UK back is from 87 and so the spread is going to continue to widen some I believe.

As a kid my dad and I watched nearly every Mike Tyson fight live. Watching him KO guy after guy in round 1 was quite impressive. It did seem like a bad deal though. Paying to see fights that ended up lasting under a minute. He was a machine. When Douglas finally put him down, it seemed to me that Tyson just thought he couldn't lose and didn't prepare. Tyson, lights out, on his hands and knees on the mat with Douglas standing over him made the cover of Sports Illustrated that month. The term, oh how the mighty have fallen, really describes his path since Douglas. Tyson was a pop culture god up to that point.
Interestingly, I researched his cards not too long ago. I read an article, maybe published by Beckett, saying this 1986 card was his rookie. But, when doing my research I remember finding a few cards that predated this card?
Tyson should have destroyed every opponent he ever faced. He should have NEVER lost even one fight. He had the ability to end any fight with one well placed punch. He just fell apart mentally. I've never seen a fighter with the kind of power and ferociousness that Tyson had. He just lost it mentally.
I communicate sometimes through EBAY with this seller. He got an offer of 15k yesterday on his Tyson initially and the guy stopped at $23,500. His response was to raise the price even more!
He did a nice job with his listing showing the SMR piece. I like it!
Just saying this as hopefully helpful advice in general, especially if you are considering buying:
eBay sellers claiming to have gotten offers is one of the “go to” plays the unscrupulous ones call. In fact, I’ve seen it first hand: a well known, high feedback seller of high end cards once told me he had an offer in hand — even went so far as to show me correspondence allegedly proving the offer... only for this seller to simultaneously brag via text (to a friend of mine, luckily for me) about the fake offer game he was running on me and how he may make a bundle.
So it happens. In order to really never get cheated, as that saying goes, we need to delve into allegedly completed sales to ascertain whether they are likely legit or not; a seller’s word they have an offer is yet another degree removed.
Nice flip on the sellers part and this just went for $11,750
And by the way the buyer is the same guy who offered the PSA seller $23,500.
I have seen the EBAY messages. He was willing to go higher.
Where do you think the market is now on a PSA 9? I threw mine up on ebay at $9,999 just to see what offers came in...already had a $3k offer but if that BGS 9.5 sale is legit at $11,750 then i'm not sure what a PSA 9 could get now. Crazy jump as PSA 9 has really been settled in at $1k/$1200 range for quite a while before this latest jump... about time though, these have been undervalued for way too long IMO.

Italian came out in 1986 and has Italian language on the back. The UK came out in 1987 and has the English language back.

These have gapped up.
I have seen the EBay messages and the guy who contacted me really thought long and hard about the $23,500 offer and said no.
I have five PSA 9’s and a perfectly centered 10 and I am not tempted to sell at these prices.
If a Lebron is set to go for a million plus Tyson has room to grow.
The Italian back as you pointed out is the real one. The same guy has a 9 and he won’t take 5k.
Good luck with your listing. I am obviously watching closely.
It is an error in the early days of grading these. 86 has Italian language and 87 UK is English. Only two versions.
