Interesting Morgan Dollar... check it out!

My friend had this coin and asked me what was wrong with it, as it is different than other Morgan dollars he has.

To me it looks like post mint damage, or some type of tooling design that was added?

Morgan experts, any advise would be appreciated!

    Looks like someone practicing their tools. The 1921 font and the reverse font almost look fake to me.

    Looks like someone took a hole saw and a hammer to the obverse.

    I dont think it is either but looks a little different. I think it was practice for a love token.

    Agree. This is the most likely cause of the PMD.

    Looks like an opium dollar.

    Yup. Teeth start (or end) just left of the P in PLURIBUS and correspond to the cut from the blade through the left star on the reverse.

    Thanks for the responses everyone. My friend is basically new to coin collecting and he received this Morgan, along with about 15 others from his grandparents.

    He said this was the only Morgan in the lot that looked "different" to him.
