I'd be very surprised if that seller- who, if I remember correctly, used to be a PSA grader-- is just giving away equity on sports cards. Best of luck with the sub, but I wouldn't have my hopes too high.

some nice cards Tommy.....i'd scrutinize those carefully and consider breaking most into raw lots or singles for resale.....i sold a decent lot awhile back which included a couple sharp & centered but blurry cards and still got paid pretty well, more than i assumed anyways....save some of your grading dollars and move 'em, JMO.

    Nice trimmed 51 Bowman's.

If I pay $5 - $5.50 each to have them graded, all they must do is average PSA 6 for me to break even or make a little.

Unfortunately, I think I agree with CDsNuts.

It could be just the scans, but it looks to me that the top edge on several of the cards is wavy. I would be very suspicious.

worst case scenario = all of them come back evidence of trimming and I don't get a refund and am out $400

best case scenario = I get a lot of 7's and 8's, maybe even a 9 and make some money

probable scenario = somewhere in between

    care factor = 0

I don't think you'll get stuck with a bunch of N-1's if any. Maybe a few miscuts, but you'll get vouchers for those. The cuts on Bowmans can be awkward, but the borders and cuts for the most part look like Bowman's that I've bought and graded over the years.

Those were all cards he had listed as BIN for a long time. Not sure why he didn't auction them off as singles since they were already listed that way, but you got them for a fraction of his original asking price. Anyway, he's been doing that with mid-grade cards from several sets so it's not like he's suddenly unloading a bunch of PSA rejects.

dont you have some other 51s to match them up with? They look really nice!
  • SDavidSDavid Posts: 1,584 ✭✭
Size can vary so much with Bowman cards that comparing them would be meaningless.

yes, they measure fine and the borders aren't wavy. I think it may be the way they scanned in the card savers. I emailed the seller just in case to ask if he'll provide a refund if any of them don't grade due to trimming.

The only downside I would suspect are a few beautifully centered cards having the common Bowman registration issue.

I know absolutely nothing about 51 Bowman but Tommy has had the seriously hot hand recently so I am betting he gets some solid grades out of these.

    Either way good luck.

For those that are unaware early Bowmans were sold 1 card to a pack for a penny, thus many come with the stained back.

They also came 6 to a pack for a nickel.

PSA generally does not penalize for it though, but many buyers shun them.

    Good for you.

I'd probably grade at least 10 of them, Tommy, is that Woodling's rookie card?

And are any of these high numbers?

My expertise is the 52 set.

    Thanks for the reply btw.

yes, it is Woodling's RC and you're welcome.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Yeah I thought so, I think, and IIRC if you can pull a 6 or a 7 that might just pay for 1/3 of your tab.

I think it is a 50.00 card in 6 and 85.00 in 7. Centering is not that bad on it either.

I think you might have a few more rookies in there as well.

Edited: was thinking of Gil McDougall

Here is the reply from the seller:

    Hi there,

You are more than welcome to return the cards for any reason. I can guarantee the cards have not been trimmed though. They came to me from the original owner.

Why do some sellers assume that buyers are idiots? The fact that they may have come from the original owner isn't a meaningful response to the question of whether or not they've been trimmed. Is there a rule somewhere that original owners are, by default, non-trimmers?

I don't know about that, but didn't Jane give you Chlamydia which you then gave to Betty? Or did Jane give you the Jordan rookie with the paper loss on back? I need a scorecard anymore.
