Finally got a 1991 Topps Desert Shield Chipper Jones BGS 9.5-sharing

Hello to all! For me, it was a matter of what came along first, a PSA 10 or BGS 9.5. Now I have 4/5 #333 versions in PSA 10 or BGS 9.5. All I need is the micro. Any spots you see are scanner junk, or on the holder, not the card. Just when I get it, the Braves are swept by the Diamondbacks and then crushed by the Angels! HA! Thats ok, I'll hold Chipper in my bosom while I cry tears of joy! hehehehe......
This is my first and only Desert Shield card of any player. The Shield looks fully intact to me, no lifts or peels. Any estimate of the print run of the Shield set? I would imagine this is a very sensitive condition set?

Print run? Only God knows - cause Topps closed their eyes - turned on the print machines and went out for a burger and beer!
<< <i>Super card!

Mike, that is a Desert Shield. I think they turned on the machine, went to the bathroom, took a 10 minute break, then shut them off. Those are pretty rare.

Hi Shane.
I was being generally rhetorical - I agree - the DS cards are way more rare than the regular run. I was over there and many told me they tossed the cards - I told them to give it to me if more comes our way!
<< <i>Good luck with finding the micro...

First, thanks for all the great comments everyone! It sure was a great find. As far as the micro, I'd even be happy with a 9. I gave my PSA 9 to my 16 year old son, now I suppose I'll have to buy him a car to get it back! I just bought 12 sealed sets at $4 and some change each, maybe I can pull a 9.
Also, funny comments on the print run. I imagined it was low, and that of course, overseas, many wouldn't hang on to them.
Currently collecting 1934 Butterfinger, 1969 Nabisco, 1991 Topps Desert Shield (in PSA 9 or 10), and 1990 Donruss Learning Series (in PSA 10).
<< <i>Congratulations on a great looking Chipper. The estimated run is around 6000 possible sets, but I can tell you as well as a few other of the board member (DS vets), I threw a lot them in the burn barrel. I currently have three raw sets and am working on a set in PSA 9 or 10. Every time I see a new high grade card it tempts me more and more to open my wax box. My friend Mark (#1 registry set) recently wrote an article in SMR about the set. If you get the chance, you might want to take a moment to read. I too am saddened by the recent play of the Braves. Having grown up in the late 60s and early 70s there, I still keep an eye on them. Once again, Congrats on a GREAT Chipper!! >>
Thanks for the info! I kinda thought it must be fairly low print run, since they were to be handed out. I would imagine we can say 50% exsist, and weren't "casualties of war" in the burn barrel. Well, you guys can't fault yourselfs for tossing them. You were preoccupied at the moment, cards were probably the last thing on your mind. I wouldn't be able to leave any sealed boxes sealed. I don't have that kind of will power. I'd have card savers ready to go for the ones that would be sent in, and a binder ready for the rest. Congrats on having will power! I will look for the SMR article, that will be interesting to read.
congrats
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
<< <i>Great looking card. Everyone knows these cards are tough- but in this grade, they are super tough. I have actually never seen one in PSA 10 for sale, but would be willing to pay several thousand if one came up. There was an SGC 98 at the Mile High auction that sold for $1200 or so last week. PSA 9's come up on Ebay fairly frequently, but most are off-center and can be had for $400-ish. I've seen well centered 9's go for closer to $500. Again- Nice Card and Great Centering. Its a winner! >>
Its your fault I got this!! I listed my O Pee Chee about a month ago, and you said I needed a DS Chipper! And of course I had to get the most expensive one I could find! Thanks for twisting my arm!! HA!
