This is a Longacre haunt according to older threads!!!!

Westport police responding to a burglar alarm early today found the front glass door and window smashed in at Sam Sloat Coins, 606 Post Road East. Initial investigation showed nothing was taken in the break-in at 2:56 a.m., according to police.

A review of security camera video showed two black males were involved—both wearing baseball caps and dark clothing—who left in what appeared to be an older model dark colored sedan similar to a late 90’s to early 2000’s Ford Taurus, police said.

Investigation revealed that two large rocks were used to cause the damage, police said. The video shows the suspects breaking the glass then entering the store for approximately 20-30 seconds, said Lt. John Pitoniak.

Police described the first suspect as a black male wearing dark pants and a dark colored hooded sweat shirt with a baseball cap underneath.

The second suspect is dressed in what appears to be a dark colored sweatsuit. The jacket has a light colored stripe that wraps around it horizontally.

He appears to have a baseball cap on with a light colored t-shirt wrapped around his head.

Both suspects were wearing gloves, police said.

In December 2008, a smash-and-grab thief made off with some estate jewelery from the store.

Bob Walter, an owner, said at the time it was the first break-in since the store moved from Brooks Corner in 1992. (See WestportNow Dec. 11, 2008)

Opened in 1961, the store deals in U.S., world and ancient coins as well as paper money, bullion silver, gold and platinum, tokens and medals.

According to its website, it also deals in vintage sports cards and memorabilia, celebrity and sports autographs, political campaign and advertising pinbacks, estate and diamond jewelry, sterling silver flatware and hollow ware.

In many communities, the local police would recommend that a coin shop not obscure the windows like this store does.

It makes it difficult for police to see in if an alarm is tripped. Gives the robbers cover.
    Have a nice day

I just noticed this thread. This is sad to hear. My undisclosed location is about a mile or two from the store. As noted in previous threads, this firm has had the pleasure of Longacre darkening its doorstep, and usually have some fine quality pieces in the offing.

You're back! We were wondering what had happened to you.

(And it looks like I may be wrong as to the location of your undisclosed location.)
