Not a geologist but gold comes in generally two forms: nuggets and crystalline.
Nuggets are generally found in placers (free gold).
Crystalline gold is generally found in the lodes or ore bodies.
Once crystalline gold is set free by nature and finds it's way out of the mountain it
quickly becomes a nugget. Since gold is so mailable it is easily transformed from one
type to another rather quickly.
