Anyone interested in a very large group sub?
I have 225 cards to submit right now, and I may add another 5-10 by the time I'm finished. All are 1978 or newer and all under $100 in value.
I'll be at the Westchester County Center show on Friday where I plan to talk to Ray Alcala (I talked to PSA customer service today about an unrelated question and confirmed he will be in White Plains this weekend) about a discounted bulk rate.
If I can get a few people to piggy-back and increase the total number of cards on this submission, the rate per card will likely decrease. By how much, I don't know yet. What I do know is that the current $6 special is not really very special at all.
Please reply here or send me a PM if interested.

Enough to get a discount.
I remember once they went as low as 4.00, but that was a few years ago.
I think Gumbyfan may have been the submitter?

I thought it was $4.25 after we had 2200 or so cards?
http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=27&threadid=805723
At the time, I was building up a stack of cards to submit and I had about 100 or so at the time. I still have those same 100 plus an additional 125, and I would be happy to pay $4.50 per card. Considering there was a club special of $4.25 as recently as November or December, and a $5.00 special that just expired a couple weeks ago, I'm hoping I don't get laughed out of the building when I ask for a rate of $4.50 at the show on Friday.
The current $6 special is a complete joke.
Good luck with the price break....and, I'm sorry in advance for all the bad grades.

<< <i>I have about 200 cards or a few more, but who is going to run this. Gumbyfan are you up for the task??
We all know what has happened on here recently... >>
Well since I have the most cards (so far) and I started the thread, I volunteer to run it. I'm no Bob King. I've lived at the same address since I was 6 and I'd have no problem having people come here to drop off their cards in person. I'm not at all hard to find and I check my e-mail at least twice a day. I can also be reached by text or IM.
I also have no problem meeting up with people at the White Plains shows. Depending on when we actually submit the cards to PSA, if it ends up being done in person at a show where PSA has a table, you can just meet me at the show with your cards and we'd submit them together. I also have substantial ebay feedback (700+) on a 13-year old account and ThoseBackPages knows me from work.
Depending on what Ray tells me at the show tomorrow about pricing, and depending on how many people want to piggy back on this, the most plausible scenario might be to plan to submit in person at the next White Plains show after this one. That would be sometime in August.
I've been building my stack of cards to submit since the winter, and it has grown to 225 as of this moment. So I'm not in any rush to do this quickly. I collect strictly for nostalgia purposes, and the majority of cards I'm submitting aren't worth the grading fee. I just like how they look in a PSA slab. Except for a few duplicates, (maybe a total of 10 out of my 225 cards) I don't plan to sell any of the cards once I get them back.
<< <i>ThoseBackPages knows me from work. >>
You poor man.
Seriously though, I've been thinking about subbing some stuff. I'll check and see how many I have. I would be interested if you do submit at the August show.

From what I hear, I think Tim qualifies. Does the person have to still be dead or could he have risen back up from the grave?

Wow. A simple yes probably would've done the trick there. If you're skin is so thin that you make responses like this to a simple question on a thread where you're asking people to send you their valuable cards as well as their money, you're probably not cut out for running a group sub. Take it from me, you get a lot of questions from a lot of people when you run a large group submission. If I was considering entrusting someone else with my cards and money to run a group submission, I would be asking questions as well...and if I got a response like that, I would say thanks but no thanks.
But that's just me. Good luck to you.

Wow. It only took 32 replies for someone to interpret maliciousness in a comment that had none. I chuckled as I posted that response. Perhaps my intent would have been communicated more effectively if I had used a smiley face?
I'll be more than happy to answer questions that haven't already been answered previously. I'll also be happy to answer the same question multiple times if anyone needs reassurance that I'm competent and capable of running this group submission efficiently and properly. I'm very organized and I am more than qualified for this task. However, I'd think anyone who was serious about piggy backing on this submission would at least have read the thread's first post. Or at least the first two lines of it.
Sorry that you take exception to my posting style. If anyone chooses not to participate because they don't like my no-nonsense attitude, that's their individual choice.

You're going to get the same questions over and over again...sometimes even from the same people. If you don't have the patience to deal with it politely at this point in the game it says a lot.
At least to me. Maybe I'm wrong.

I think Nascar360 was only pointing out that if you look at your original post you said Ray, not Roy, and he was making sure you were aware of that fact.
As gumbyfan stated, people are going to ask questions and his actually was a reasonable one which you took out of hand based on your reply IMO.

Thank you Mike. That was not a typo. I actually thought the guy's name was Ray this whole time. Amazing how changing one little letter can screw things up so bad!
I had his name incorrect, so I accept my fair share of the responsibility for the confusion, and I apologize to everybody.
Still, that being said, I had the guy's full name listed in the 2nd line of the 1st post in the thread, and I had 88.9% of the letters in his name correct. So therefore, when I mentioned "Ray" later in the thread, the meaning should have been clear in my humble opinion.

Wth all due respect, yes, you're wrong. Perhaps it was uncharacteristic for you, but your first post in this thread was biting and aggressive towards me. I admit that my response to the initial question contained an element of sarcasm, but to reiterate, there was no real maliciousness, and your condemnation of me for it was disproportionate to what I had said.
I realize that many are skeptical about group submissions at this point in time, but I'm making myself available to do whatever I can to gain the trust that is necessary for this type of thing. In any other situation, I would have simply ignored the question that spawned this line of discussion, but I didn't want it to seem like I was being negligent.
In a way, I'm glad I answered it, despite the unpleasantries (whihc thankfully seem to be sorting themselves out through the natural course of discussion), because now there will be no doubt. I will be talking to ROY ALCALA at the show tomorrow afternoon in White Plains.
Where is that picture??
Anyway in all seriousness I apologize for bringing Gumbyfan's name into this. When you originally posted I thought you were asking who wants into this and who wants to run it. My mistake.
I think we all are want better rates than $6 a card. I think we got used to the $5 price at least I did.
The turnaround on poppage would be 3 days or was that a joke...
So who wants in on this deal. Again sorry for bringing Gumby's name in here. I just have utmost confidence in him from the couple of group subs I took part in. The last big one I remember was close to 2,500 cards.
Can we get 1,000 maybe 2,000. If 2k what's the price on that? Whats the turnaround?

Here's something fun to lighten the mood: Reporter Makes Backwards Half-Court Shot And Doesn't Know It!
As far as turnaround time, I would expect it to be sloooooooooooooow. Depending on how things shake out, this may not happen until August, because that will allow me to submit the entire submission in person at a show to save on shipping all the cards cross country to Newport Beach. And the more cards, the longer it will take to pop once PSA logs it in. Too bad we'll have to pay return shipping. That part is unavoidable.
<< <i>
That looks fun as heck! I don't know how all of y'all keep those boxes unopened. I'd have to rip them, that's the big reason I don't collect unopened as it wouldn't be unopened long.
Nice setup.
