But I am guessing you did go through each card making sure there were no miscuts, yes??? image
  • Tooo funny.. That really is all that could be done with those.

Sadly, yes. image And that's just a small portion of what needs to go.

Couple of the neighbors got that Sasquatch look down pretty good but usually all you see here are deer, turkeys, partridge and occasionally a moose wanders through.

Can you imagine the neighbors looking out and wondering "Why is he taking a picture of the garbage and dumpster?"
  • tigerdeantigerdean Posts: 910 ✭✭✭
Jeez man, you could have at least asked us board members if we wanted to pay the shipping to obtain some of them. I have a group of little leaguers that would have went bonkers to started going through all of those image

I'm jealous that you have a dumpster within walking distance

I wouldn't have had the patience to be bothered putting them neatly in the boxes like that

I was thinking the same thing Mike - they woulda been chucked into a 60 gallon bag and into the garbage.

  • Could have saved them until winter and you were feeling lazy and did not want to grab wood to throw on the fire.

The psychology suggests that Barf is remorseful for his actions and leaves room for the prospect of a dominant accomplice (wife) who manipulated him into these actions.

Actually my wife didn't want me to throw them. I explained to her they aren't worth anything and will never be worth anything. My oldest won the other hand was like you can put them all in my room. Uh, no! image

It's all part of my trying to gain focus on my card collecting. I've determined that having mass quantities of sports cards is not cutting it for me as I no longer see the enjoyment out of that.

So things that I still enjoy cardwise are:

    Miscut collection
    Braves collection
    Sets
Various players I've collected over the years
    Autographed material

I've also picked out a few players I want to start collecting:

Don Mossi (have already picked up a few things)
Wes Unseld (after seeing his Icee Bear card that sparked my interest in him and picked one up plus a couple lower grade RC's)
John (Johnny) Berardino (grew up seeing him on the soaps)

It's going to take me awhile to go through the commons and then the next step is looking through the better stuff and figure out what I want and what I don't but I'm motivated to do this.

That's not a Richie Ashburn rookie; that's a modern (authorized) reprint from a Bowman set.

I can't figure out why he bothered taping the boxes shut. Was there a nagging fear that the cards would escape on their own if the boxes weren't sealed and make their way back inside the house?

  • Like the creativity! Nice pictorial.

There really isn't much more you can do with cards from that era, unless you can find someone who actually wants them and is willing to come get them. I had about 45,000- and I was fortunate enough to have a friend who was willing to take them off my hands to sort through with his kids.
I didn't even consider asking him for any money.

If you have the time and are willing to spend the $ for postage, there's nothing wrong with using cards from that era for TTMs.

This batch was not worth donating to his great cause do to the previous owner being a heavy smoker which in turn caused some to have damage and some had that lovely smell of nicotine so best thing for them was trashing them.

I still have a lot to go through and have already sent a PM to Dean as I hadn't forgot about his thread but thanks for the link and bumping his thread for others that might not have seen it.

I don't know, I think involving a trebuchet and some flaming torches would've been better than a simple dumpster toss.

Then again, I really hate most of my neighbors, so launching an aerial assault of flaming boxes of 80's sportscard detritus in their general directions wouldn't bother me that much.

    right, due...

passing it forward would be the right thing to do...

you know, based on the fact that many come your way...

    hope to see this happen...

And why do you assume I have never passed anything forward?

You sure seem to be taking my trashing these awfully personal for some reason?
