I like the way he arrogantly tries to sound diplomatic while trying to bend you over for ten bucks. I'd do what storm says--tell him to return the cards for a full refund if he's not happy. One neg is not going hurt your ebay sales, especially if you respond appropriately to it.

Maybe he wanted to wait until his situation was resolved?
He did say in his opening post that 'IDK' what to do.
<< <i>Mike buys cards for his son, who I believe is on the registry. I've sold cards to Mike over the years and haven't had any problems. He can be a bit pushy at times, but he pays quickly and he has very deep pockets. Doesn't sound like him at all to squabble over 10 bucks, he probably was just genuinely disappointed that the cases were scratched (I have no idea what condition they were in). I do think its terrible that he threatened with neg feedback. Again, just doesn't sound like the guy I've dealt with in the past at all. >>
This echoes my experience with this buyer. He's bought quite a few cards from me, and every deal has gone very smoothly.
So I finally spoke with ebay and they basically told me he cannot threaten me with neg feedback.
My account is noted and I should contact them immediately if I receive neg feedback.
I left the buyer a message simply stating that I will not refund 10 dollars to due a threat of neg feedback, etc...
I will let you know the end result if anything changes....
thanks guys

Ebay actually said that a buyer can't threaten with negative feedback? I absolutely disagree. If something is wrong with what I purchased, there are two avenues. Either the seller helps me out or he gets negative feedback. What ebay said makes no sense to me whatsoever. This is why negative feedback is an option. The seller needs to react to every buyer as if they may leave negative feedback if the seller does not provide what is promised in the sale.

I agree with your logic however in this case the buyer is using neg FB as extortion to get money out of the seller.
Since "option-boy" wants to play, I would give him these...(1) Send cards back for a full refund, (2) Keep cards and leave whatever feedback you need to leave or (3) (and my personal favorite) Blow a goat
Ebay has made this feedback nonsense the problem that it is. Panicking about a neg enhances that problem. If everyone would do what I do, which is to ignore a neg or two, there would be no problem. If your item is good enough, somebody else WILL buy it.

He obviously was using feedback extortion.
There are many reasons one might have some deep pockets. Nickle and diming people are one of them.

I have a bunch of cards I'd like to sell, this seems to be very good advice in the current ebay market.

Edit: Typo
I think you missed the point. A buyer can leave negative feedback, he can't threaten to do so.

Also he can't threaten to do so unless you give him a partial refund. That is kinda like extortion.
