I have two great coins...

tradedollarnuttradedollarnut Posts: 20,200 ✭✭✭✭✭
...that I haven't posted here because they've been dipped. One is early 19th century copper, the other is late 18th century silver.

Dipped silver doesn't bother me - over dipped or dipped out silver does and there's a huge difference. Those who claim that a 1700's coin shouldn't be blast white do have a point, tho. So I'm a bit embarrassed to post it, even tho I think it's a great coin.

Dipped copper on the other hand does bother me - mainly because it's a lot more unstable. This one's in an OGH, however - so it's been almost 20 years since it happened and the color has only mellowed a bit to looking very natural. I really really like the coin ... but I'm sure that some are a bit more critical.

Maybe one day I'll get over my reservations and post them.

You should just send them to me for proper disposal. I wouldn't post them here. It might tarnish your reputation.

If I took a similar approach, I would likely never post anything at all. None of my coins are the best, not by any definition of the word. If someone wants to be critical, it's their choice, there are many who choose that route (especially here on the boards.) Post it if you want too, don't post it if you don't.

So they've been dipped. If you like them, who cares if someone else does not. I'm sure most all of us would gladly have 'em in our collections. So post and educates us.

You can never please everyone, and frankly I am a bit surprised to hear that what others think of your coins would stop you from posting them.

Post away -- at least RickO will like them. image

Bruce, I have an 1802 narrow date Bust $ in PC AU 53 with a sticker. It has original skin, and I think it was net graded because while original mint luster is there, you'd see more of it if it was dipped. The coin has minimal wear. I'm leaving it as is.

If you're not going to post them, then why even start a thread teasing us about these "two great coins" that we can't see?? Whatever dude!!!!! Maybe one day we'll get to see them as you further tease image

  • It is best not to post them.

Post away! I would like to see them, especially the 1700's one. Also I have noticed that there has been a dearth of flame type threads here lately which I suppose is a good thing but they always liven up the place a bit (an unfortunate side effect now is folks get bammed when their emotions get heated up...). You always have had thick skin though and provided polite but firm responses so post some pics!

    TDN,
That's some "dreck" you got there. LOL. The pieces you're embarrased about would more that be centerpieces in my collection...As always, that's for posting pics. Cool coins.
