robkoolrobkool Posts: 5,934 ✭✭✭✭✭
I plan on selling a few of those $10 casino silver strike medals... Does anyone know the silver content in these ??? I know they are marked .999 fine silver, but don't know the actual silver weight (ASW).

    Check out SilverStrikers.com

    Strike Composition

$2 and $3 strikes are made of Brass.

$7 strikes are .999 Silver with approximate weight of 0.65 troy ounces.

$10 strikes have a .999 Silver center insert (additional info here), outer ring is Brass (additional info here), approximate Silver weight is 0.60 troy ounces of Silver. Sometime in 2005, a new thinner center insert strikes with less silver (~ 0.50) appeared. In 2009 CLAD (no .999) $10 strikes appeared, even some red capsules. However, the red capsules should return to .999 silver.

$20 strikes have a .999 Silver outer ring with some 24kt Heavy Electroplating (HE) and a Bronze 24kt Heavy Gold Electroplate (HGE) on the center insert, approximate Silver weight is 0.75 troy ounces of Silver.

$28 strikes are .999 Silver with 24kt Gold Plating (GP), approximate Silver weight is 0.65 troy ounces.

$40 strikes are .999 Silver with 24K Heavy Electroplate (HE), approximate Silver weight is 1.54 troy ounces for the large size $40 strikes and 1.26 troy ounces for the small size $40 strikes.

$200 strikes are 1 troy Pound (12 ounces) of Silver and may have some 24kt Heavy Electroplating or for the newer RWM mint strikes may have colorization.

$300 strikes are 1 troy Pound (12 ounces) of Silver and may have some 24kt Heavy Electroplating.  Beginning 2011 the new $300's were changed to a 6 troy ounces center with a gold plated copper ring.

I have asked the local casino where I live to redeem a token of the $10 variety. Face value only. So don't go there.

I have seen some ads for sale of the tokens at $22/per. Buy prices were not listed( 1 month ago).

    Google silver casino tokens.

Edit-- See www.ProvidentMetals .com-- current list price for sale--@ $31

Hmmmm... I have a bunch of casino tokens I have picked up over the years... will have to check them out... interesting. When I purchased them, it was more for nostalgia than anything else. Cheers, RickO

    Zoins & TahoeDale...
Thanks for the much needed info. It helps a lot image
  • I just de-silvered about 300 of the $10, now left with the brass rings, quite a bit in weight, isn't brass mostly copper so I saved to scrap with other copper I am gonna melt.

Edit: My hand is swollen due to another silver reclamation project, not this one and cause by blunt, force trauma.

  • Oh, to get the silver out, a little friendly advice a 1/2 socket on the silver and use a drill press to punch the centers out, I actually used a snap on, 1/2" tall socket and a 12 ton press, quick work. 300 took me maybe 40 minutes as the silver fell though the press into the melt bucket, rings were flicked off the side into a box and the socket has some string and tape so it wouldn't fall into the bucket. Quick.

Thanks TexasNationals. Good to know the technique. The rings seem to hold up better than slabs image
