Academy Brand Silver Bars

I recently made a purchase of "Our Choice" 50 oz silver bars from an online PM seller. They arrived yesterday as "Academy" branded bars.

Is this a (relatively) well known and easy to sell brand of bar? Does it compare at all with Engelhard?
I like large size currency and silver dollars.

More on the line of NTR & Scotsdale bars. Compared to a recognizable silver round IMO. Peace, Tim

Academy bars and Engelhard bars of the same marked weight have the same exact weight and fineness of silver. Because of hype, Engelhard sells for a slightly higher premium. Put each bar in its own pot and then melt them---I challenge you to tell me which is which.

I prefer the appearance of Academy bars. Though for resale purposes, it's always easier to sell an Engelhard at a premium.

Academy, along with Scottsdale bars, which are made by Academy, are very recognizable in the U.S. You should not have any issues when selling them. BTW, I like their stacker bars.

  • If you bought it as "Our Choice", I'd be happy you got an Academy bar. Maybe not Engelhard or JM but Academy is a highly recognizable name nonetheless.

At a shop near me, for a brief time, the Academy bars were selling for .10/oz higher than JM or Engelhard bars because they were so much easier to stack. They now sell at the same price. You should have no issues having anyone in the US accepting and recognizing Academy bars. You shouldn't suffer a discount vs JM/Engelhard either.

Thank you very much to everyone for the feedback. I now have zero concerns about these bars. image

  • I'd be thrilled to get Academy stackers from an "our choice" option. They usually sell for a heavy premium too.
