Will slight rim bruise (bump) cause a genuine grade?

Any exoerience out there? I have some mid 1800's thalers with very small bumps that you can see with a 5x on 1 side of the coin(s).
TIA!

Gonna need to see some pix, I'm afraid. Otherwise I'd say "definitely maybe".

If you need a 5x to see it, I will wager that the coin will slab.

Likely slab... rim bumps seem to be acceptable when minor as you describe. Cheers, RickO

Have you asked this of our darkside scholars? I'm sure there are some experts who could diagnos with some pix.

Rim bruise = dreck. Hopefully it will go into a genuine holder where it belongs. Harsh times call for harsh grading.

Agree. Also, you can't usually see them in PCGS slabs since the ring usually hides any rim/edge issues. That's one of the advantages of the NGC edge view slabs unless one of the tabs cover the problem.

I think it depends on what the coins would grade otherwise. A rim bump that would Gennie a high Uncirculated coin would likely be OK on a circ. That said, i agree with MiF that if you need a 5x to see it, its likely OK.

Probably OK. PCGS gets more lenient as grade goes down and age goes up.
    When in doubt, don't.

No genuine grade on these... However, the coins will be downgraded.
