1883 proof IHC... Opinions ???

Crapshoot with copper. If it were an old green PCI holder I would say probably. With the gold PCI it goes from probably to unlikely.

I'll have close-up pics when I get it in hand... It's a gamble, since the pics don't show the true colors, or surfaces reflectivity.

Before I give an opinion, let me say that in the overall scheme of things when it comes down to IHC........I'm impaired, with that said.....IMO whatever the grade, the color is brown

my guess with that nasty hit on the snout would be 61 brown.....

I would just enjoy it raw. If you want a slab I would buy a Capitol holder. For a $150 I think you did just fine.

WOW !!! You guys are rough on this IHC. I'm crossing my finger on this one, & hope to find no nasty spots (carbon/verdigris) on this beauty. That's mostly my worries... If it checks out ok, I will then get some professional opinions, before I decide to crack it out.

It has been cleaned and recolored at one point in time. I also looked at that coin and passed. It has a 50/50 shot at getting graded imho.

Although it could be the photograph, I do not like the look of that coin at all.... something about the color of the rub on the high points tells me this has been worked on... yes, I could be wrong, and in hand it will be different. Good luck, Cheers, RickO

I also saw it and passed. The PR64BN the seller has listed is a much better buy for your money.

I fear you are going to be disappointed if you are hoping for no nasty dark spots. A few that jump out: under the R in america, above 1 at the neck beads, at the cheekbone. Hard to tell about the reverse because the seller angled the coin in an attempt to show color. I don't see any verdigris, though.

It's not a look that appeals to me but it may be nicer in hand.

I agree with others who've said the coin was cleaned at one time. I don't think it will cross.
