Did anyone ever hear of or see the Hallmark statehood quarters?

Hallmark greeting card company/shops created their own version of the un-circulated statehood quarter collectibles. They consisted of the first 5 quarters of the series. Unbeknown to me, my wife happened to purchase many of them at the time. The packaging is red, white and blue with Hallmark's "American Spirit Collection" printed upon it and the U.S.Mint logo also printed upon it. Some have the first 5 of the series in 1 pkg and many of them have 2 quarters in 1 pk. of the same state quarter showing 1 with the obv. and 1 with the rev.. I have many Deleware and Pennsy packs. I found a box full of these searching through the closet. She'd stashed them away many moons ago and forgot about them.
I guess my question is...has anyone here seen or heard of these type collectibles? Are they fetching a nominal premium?

Anyone I've consulted regarding these look at me as if I have 2 heads!

If you have heard of or possess any of these packets, let me know...I'm curious

  • That's a toughy , personally i wasn't in the US in 1999 and knew nothing of state quarters until 2007.I have completed several full sets from circulation though and was very surprised that most of the first issue coins were in remarkable condition.I dont know if this is down to people having put them away at the time and spent them years later or if its rolls just being opened or the design itself.Other years issues some of the coins are in awful condition sometimes, much more so than earlier years.I would imagine they may very well carry a small premium, the wee teddy bear mascots holding the different states coins still make an appearance now and then and always appear to do well.

A few of these sets have cropped up at my local club auction. They bring at most about double the face value, sometimes less.

Hallmark also sold State Quarter Christmas tree ornaments. We only have the Delaware and Massachusetts versions because Delaware was my home state and my wife came from Massachusetts. The holder has state symbols and scenes around the coin.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I remember when these came out. The assistant editor of the magazine I write for started a set of the carded coins, but quickly could not get them at her Hallmark store, so I helped her finish out 1999. Can't remember if they did 2000's.

  • I have many of the below all up to 2002. Picked them up here and there for anywhere from a buck to $3 each for the doubles. Was always hoping to find that special MS70.

I still pick them up when I see them.
