Read the show report/bog by Pinnacle Rarities here

I also no longer carry any printed information. Everything I need is either in my head or a few clicks away.

I really enjoy my Iphone 4, it sure is nice to be able to get a ton of info with just a few precious clicks!

Also being able to scroll thru my entire collection to see hwat coins I am missing, or how a new coin may fit into my collection is just plain awesome.

I thought that perhaps you also used yours to design numismatic fashions during the down times at shows.

Nice report! I use my iPhone at shows all the time. Now if PCGS made a coinfacts app, that would rock!

I wonder if Pinnacle takes credit cards at shows...
  • illini420illini420 Posts: 11,467 ✭✭✭✭✭
I still carry around a legal pad and a pen... and my notes & greysheet tucked in the back before the cardboard backing. Sure I have a smartphone, but it's so much faster for me to look stuff up and write stuff down on paper. I guess I'm still smarter than my smartphone.

Anyone here had a dealer process a credit card transaction yet by smartphone for a coin at a show?

Interesting. I went to a show today and at least three dealers commented on my phone, asking what it does and how it worked after noticing I was accessing a spreadsheet with my inventory and/or price lists.

What does that have to do with have access to files at coin shows? I certainly cant take my computer to the show and setup. image

It just seemed from your first post that you were adamantly opposed to technology.

  • I've got a CoinFacts subscription and a Droid X. At the coin shows I've attended this year, I've been able to research populations and price guides, and I've been able to modify my set registry on the spot, deleting coins as I traded them, instead of having to delete all the coins in my trade stack and add back that evening the ones I was able to keep. I also keep notes and want lists on one of my seven home screens. It's nice.

There's a difference between embracing technology and the tail wagging the dog.

LOL no, I just hate people having the ability to bother me at anytime they want to. I had my phone shut off in November because every time I saw somebody they would ask me why I dont answer my phone.

When I take a CC at a show, I enter it when I get back home, but I have gotten a lot of information prior.

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Julian, that is pretty risky considering the fact that I know you have some top notch coins and they are not cheap. You could probably get a nice laptop attachment to process cards at a show or use the smartphone app.

Already there. There have been successful smart phone implantations in Japan.
The transmitter in the larynx, and a pill-sized receiver in the ear. No need for a Redbook,
simply say Greysheet, login using voice commands, and find the current Greysheet price your looking for.

I was at the CICF show yesterday. Over dinner, I showed a buddy of mine what I did with the Krause catalogs (in pdf) that he once send me... I converted them all into iBooks and now have them on my iMac, my iPad and my iPhone. I also have my inventory (really just my collection) in an excel spreadsheet also accessible on my iPhone. And of course I get access to HA.com, this site as well as a host of other source material.

And, wouldn't you know it... It even takes phone calls, plays music and takes photos and videos. Convergence technology is such a wonderful thing...
