If you could buy one Topps card not named 1952 Mantle, which would it be?

And why?

1952 Topps high grade Joe Nuxhall. Two reasons why:

    -It is his rookie card
-It is a high number (I believe it is the 2nd to last card)
    Project:

    T206 Set - 300/524

    57T Aaron PSA 9 - perfectly centered.

I like Aaron and always liked the card - since day 1 - the patch just jumps out at me. Do not remember pulling the card - those pesky series were an ass kicker!

    Almost surely the 1953 Mantle.

When I was a kid he was the big rookie (and Griffey). Everyone around here said he was Hall of Fame bound.

Two years ago I would have said the 1990 Topps No Name Frank Thomas card....but I no longer need to after pulling 4 of these cards from an unopened case. Given the extreme scarcity of this card, I believe it will someday reach "1952 Mickey Mantle status" and value in the hobby.

1960 Mantle PSA 8. It's the next card on my radar. I have cut back on buying this year to save up for it. I want to finish the set in PSA 8 and the way I am going it will be the last card I need. I don't want that to happen so it moves to the front of the line.

1977 Topps Reggie Jackson in an Orioles uniform. Love that card!
  • John Amos. Most notable for his work as JJ's dad on the 70's hit show Good Times.
He also had many other roles in very famous movies.

Heck of an actor, heck of a guy, and played football for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1967 according to Wikipedia, but
I can't find his name on any roster. He got cut by the AFL Kansas City chiefs in training camp that same year.

I don't think so. If it was Griffey Jr....possibly....but there is too much going for the Mantle for the 90ToppsNNOF Frank Thomas to get near that and too much going against it.

As for the card that I would want....easy...a PSA 10 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente. Why? He is one of the greatest examples of unselfishness in a pro sports player, he was a humanitarian.

1977 Topps Mark Fidrych, PSA 10. I collect 77 all-stars and this is likely the most valuable followed closely by Munson.

Jimmy Brown 2001 Topps Archives Rookie Reprint Autograph. I have yet to see one of these offered anywhere and I suspect it's going to go for some good coin given the popularity of this set.

If you can't have the 52 Mantle then I sure like the second year card of him. Sure seems undervalued to me...here is a copy of mine.

1961 Topps Dice Game Stan Musial. Why? Because it is the most expensive card that I need for my Cardinals team sets. I will never even see one, much less be able to buy one.

Realistically, I would love to have a 1968 Topps 3D Curt Flood. They are super rare and would cost a pretty penny, but I might could swing a low grade one raw.

I'm lucky to own both of my top 2. I'd love to find a PSA 10 NNOF, but I don't think one exists due to top/bottom centering. I believe my 9 is as nice as any example that has ever existed.

The '55 Clemente is the next. I'm completely satisfied with my PSA 2, as I like vintage cards that look like they came from a pack when current.

Ross, Dmitri Young showed his NNOF Thomas as a PSA 10 on the MLB Network special a few weeks ago- and he even stated his is the only 10. I paused my DVR to see a still picture of that card so I could get a better look at the centering. The centering on his card looked no better than a few of mine and makes it even more disappointing that the highest any of mine got was an 8, despite them being pack fresh with super sharp edges and corners. You have to certainly wonder if PSA gives him preferential treatment on his grades that get labeled "Dmitri Young Collection" right on the flip.

Good to know Joe. I always assumed the PSA 10 on the registry was the corrected card that received the wrong flip. I truly believe my 9 should have a shot at PSA 10 if they've awarded one to Young. I'd wager a bet that not one of these exists with perfect top to bottom centering.

Since I own a Clemente rookie...I would have to go with the beautiful '56 Mantle PSA 7 or higher...
  • I'd love a vibrant, centered 1954 Aaron because he is my all-time favorite player.

I'd like a 1956 Mantle so I can get my '56 set moving toward completion. It's not easy plunking down $1,100-$1,400 for a single card (especially in my wifes eyes)

  • I'd want the best '52 Eddie Matthews I could find, dead centered. I think this card is terribly UNDERVALUED, given it was single printed, the last in the set and prone to damage (like the Pafko), and nearly every example I've seen has terrible centering.
