depends on what shape it's in, as in,

is it marked bars or rounds, is it in tableware, is it a tea service, is it a picture frame, is it scrap jewelry?

    and also,

    how much of it?

What about those 1970's x-mas Franklin Mint 1000 grains bars? What are people paying for these?

here's a start...kitco's paying $1.050 per gram, and you pay shipping.
so I guess you could work from this point.

    Product 0 - 1000 oz 1000 - 5000 oz 5000+ oz
    Sterling Scrap $1.050 $1.061 $1.073
    Pure Silver $1.169 $1.182 $1.195
    800 Silver $0.931 $0.941 $0.951

    per gram prices.

That sounds way too low. ~15% discount to spot.

I bet you can do better shipping it to a refiner.

    Again...5-15% below spot.

On eBay you may get spot or slightly higher, but don't forget the fees.
Most STERLING SILVER Bars or Round do not carry a premium over spot in the U.S., and have not in the past.

One dealer I know who does a lot of scrap buying pays around 85-88% for sterling depending on what form it's in. He then ships to the refinery for 4-5% more.

I think that reason this topic arises so frequently is that many people possess sterling and cannot readily obtain any such price as you mention.
If there is any such person on the planet as will pay 95% for sterling please post that individual's name and contact info. In a trade, I once got the equivalent of 83% and was delighted. I hooked up at least 2 other forum members with this and they thanked me for it.

To the OP: if you receive (after charges, short-weighing, 'stack loss', and any and every [expletives deleted] unseemly trick you can imagine and several that haven't even occured to you yet) 2/3'rds to 3/4'ths of the actual silver value contained, you did well.
Many, many perfect transactions with other members. Ask please.

I believe most of your questions have been answered. You may want to do some basic research yourself as to what refineries pay for Sterling. .999 silver bars or rounds are not an issue.

I apologize if it's crass for me to link my BST Sterling Buy Thread . I'll remove this shameless link if anyone finds it improper.

I may not be able to meet every seller's expectation in price, but I do my best in paying a fair price with good hassle/worry free service.
