Half dollar search

I finally closed on my home, and went to a local bank to set up a savings account, a safe deposit box and, most importantly, a source of boxes of half dollars. The credit union that I have checking with cannot order halves for me. My plan, of course, was to order halves through the bank, mine them for silver and return them to the credit union. Well I ordered a box of halves today and I will get it on Monday. Will keep you posted.

The bank manager said they had only three rolls of halves available, and I only had $10. So after all the other paperwork was done (an inexplicably long time!), I got one roll of halves, slipped them in my pocket and went home. I was looking forward to searching it, as it was a hand-wrapped roll. When I got home, I saw that the wrapper was so old that the scotch tape on the ends of the roll had discolored it. Then I saw writing on the side of the roll "Silver". I undressed that roll faster than a French wh**e, and, indeed, 20 40% halves!! You know I will be back at the bank in the morning for the other two rolls!!

This has been a very good day!

That happened to me about 1 year ago...Needed one roll for an up coming poker game and ended up with a roll of unc 1969 halves. Had to go back for another roll...all clad.

Went back to the bank today and got the other two rolls. Same wrapping and old scotch tape but no writing on the rolls. They contained 26 40% halves and 14 clad halves. So the total for the three rolls is 46 40% halves. Feel sort of bad that somebody that didn't know any better was left these after the collectors demise. So they just cashed them at the bank. BTW, a total of five tellers know about my quest for halves, and so far they have not asked me why. ordered a box of $500 for Monday, but I don't expect much from that box. Does anybody know what halves get rejected in a bank counting machine (the one used to machine wrap the halves before boxing them? Would that machine reject 90%? how about 40%?

"...and so far they have not asked me why."

Don't let them get smart or they'll undercut you with a quickness if they find out these halves are worth alot. Tell them you get them for poker games or boy scout troups or to leave as tips at restaurants. This happened to me and all the halves at my bank mysterioulsy got missing and "they couldn't get anymore".

    I can't believe there's a teller who doesn't have the word. Maybe it's just that they don't know 40%.

I found these two rolls about two years ago from the local Wells Fargo. Silver at face is a good thing!

    That's very true.
Had a teller (didn't want her as she didn't seem friendly or nice but was the next one available) yesterday who, when I got done with a few things asked her for the halves she had in her change holder on the desk. She grabbed them, looked at them, and put aside a franklin and then traded me the rest (normal clad).
Now, I wouldn't have minded if she had handled it differently, with the same result, but the way she did it....well, I want to have no interactions with her as I think she was just missing her broom, black cat, and a pointy hat.....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

They are smartening up out there and some of my casino friends tell me that what had previously been their personal pickin's are now company property. Could be she's working under the chief's orders.

How does she sound cute? The poster said she didn't seem friendly or nice. How do you get "cute" out of that?

I guess it was the mental picture the reference to cat, hat, and broom created. No mention of wart on the nose but make-up could overcome that if missing. You know, that erotic Margaret Hamilton look that just does it. Probably they won't let her bring her flying monkeys to work, although they would make great bank guards.
