Poured 25 gram gold bar out of packaging would I have problems on ebay and what kind of premium to e

Time for me to cash out guys,

I have this 25 gram gold bar, came in a flip and a COA (not sure what they originally came in?). Is this going to be a problem on ebay? Being a poured gold bar any premium? From Jakarta?

With the fee's honestly am I better listing it in on the BST at a fixed price or eBay .99 no reserve, I hear fee's are like 9% now with PP. Not spam, need your advice! Also I don't sell on ebay so I don't even have my 10 for my DSR's, so....................

Edit, it is a 25 gram bar, not 20.

  • You will need to cover 12% just to make up for the EBay/paypal fees. Sell it on the BST for a bit over spot. That seems to be what they pull on EBay, and you save on the fees.

I am by no means an expert on certain gold bars, so unless this is a rare or highly collected item other then the standard .999 poured bars I see on EBay, then I figure thats what your looking for.

    TN.
check on your max ebay commish if you are selling . Used to be $50. And it's in the process of changing if it hasn't already. Lot of changes on ebay. Minefield right now.

Nonsense...that 12% applies only to low cost items. Items over 1K will cost less than 8% in fees between eBay & PayPal. BST good luck in selling it at spot ----Your bar is not a household name brand.

Are you factoring in the new $100 FV fee? I'm not a big seller on eBay but have hit the (old) $50 cap on FV fees a couple times that did hold the total to 8% as you cite.

    Just wondering? image

I would give the BST a shot. It doesn't cost anything and if it doesn't sell you can always go to eBay. Since the maker isn't a well known name, I would feel lucky to get melt value.

You input your figures into: SET PRICE ... i/e $.99 Starting Bid... $1200 ending bid. The Red Box ( eBay & PayPal fees) will automatically give your fees. Fill in the boxes on the left if they are applicable or you own a store....very simple.

I would be surprised to get melt, even before Ebay fees. Even if it were listed on the BST I would pass. No recognizable name (at least to me) means not worth it in my book.

If all else fails, you could always send it to a refinery. Where did you get this bar?

I totally agree with you...But you never know with BST or especially eBay. A knowledgeable bullion dealer may give you spot -5% to -10%. It all depends what your original cost was if you're willing to accept a low ball offer. Check with the Capt. for his input.

If I were still working and this came in, I would do a specific gravity test on it and pay 96% IF it tested OK.

However, most shops are busier than heck, and don't have the time it takes to do an s.g. If somebody offers you 95%, or even 94%, consider that a serious offer. This is the cost of buying and selling way off-brand merchandise.

  • Thanks for the link, it does cap at $50 on this. Not sure about the off brand, though I posted it here a few years ago and several people knew them. Anyways, even at 70% of melt I make money, but I like it and if gold flops to $500 oh well, I have screwed up or missed deals that make this look like take a penny leave a penny taped to the hood of an armored brinks car, well not exactly but you get the idea.

I had a plan to take all of these odd poured and stamped ( 5 gm JM silver and 5 gm JM gold bar) and having all of this in my coin room/office, but that was at $600 and $9 so screw that now. I hate having stuff locked up so people can't see it. Same idea with my Mexican collection, but I don't feel safe doing that eitherimage
