I got sucked into the darkside back in 2003. It's very nice over there. I bought a couple for a US type set i'm working on as a collection for my daughter. Check'm out. I really like the look of both of these.

Welcome back Terry. It's always nice to get the kids involved. Mine just tell me to stop looking at coins! Nice starters there.

Nice coins, but I discourage people from buying coins for a child. If they aren't interested, they aren't interested. If they are too young to be interested, wait until they are older and let them collect what they like, with their own eye, their own money. That's what it will take for them to be collectors, not dad buying them expensive coins they could never afford on their own. Many kids that get their hands on such coins sell at first chance, for 10 cents on the dollar.

Think of it this way, how would you have felt if mom had bought some old collectable quilts (I was going to say Barbie dolls, but it doesn't matter too much) for you when you were a kid. I would guess that mostly you'd be interested in the money, what they are worth if you sell, not the craftsmanship, not the design, not the art. Same with your daughter and the coins you are buying her.

Back when I was able to play golf I used to tell people that you either loved golf, or you hated it, there was no middle ground. The same with fishing. Way back as far as I can remember I have been fasinated by coins, I love them. I have left the hobby a couple of times in my life but keep coming back. You can introduce your children to coins but from there it is their call. I hope your daughter loves coins.

I guess I should have stated that my daughter will be 21 on her next birthday. I use to take her to shows when she was a kid. She will enjoy these after I'm dead and gone.

A man came into the shop the other day and said : "My 12 year old daughter would be upset if she knew her dad was back here without her". During their first visit weeks ago, I told her and her friend to "pick out a coin" from the "darkside box".

Its nice to see how something so small can be so great. Imagine what it would be like if I'd given her a statehood quarter. How boring would that be ?
