Sealed box of uncirculated silver dimes.

Not my auction, but with all the threads here recently regarding unopened silver proof sets, I thought this might be of interest. Don't know how to link it. I have never seen a box like this offered. Is this how they came?

Looks neat, I haven't seen the straps on boxes. Are straps common on old boxes?
I'd think some tellers might break their nails trying to open that up.

no guarantee they are 62's and that they are BU. If box is legit they could easily be FRB re-rolls of pre-63 coins that had been circulated. I wouldn't pay more than spot and would have to see an opened box before I would pay that. Buying sealed boxes of anything on ebay is playing with fire.

The hole is big enough to have unloaded/refilled it one roll at a time.

My guess is if someone bought it in person in the past they wanted to peek inside and verify what was in it.
That might even be why they penciled 1961 on the box if they saw the dates were 1961.

Why I dont know, what good is an unc roll of 62 dimes, what would you look for 68 FT's? then all the grading fees. Would be cool to do some kind of group deal somedayimage

Some good eyes here! The penciled in 1961 on the box and the hole certainly raises some questions!

I like your idea Big E. I posted this because it's neat but way outside my price range. Not sure what the attraction would be for an unopened box of late date silver dimes other than it's never been opened. I am not aware of much to look for though.

well it is at 7100 dollars right now.. about the break even point for the seller
if they just opened them up and sold them at melt... when you consider the fees
that will have to be paid i imagine.

    10 mins left.

They used a special tool, a band cutter. It just snapped the band apart.

that is a crap shoot. the guy would be better off to open the box and display the rolls, if left intact he may find an idiot to pay face value at best. the box removes more value than it adds

When I saw this, I was like WOW, very neat. But now that some of you mentioned it, I would be worried about that access hole issue and some other things that were raised up

I will pony up $650 if anyone else wants to try and get 9 other board members to do the same and then contact the seller and offer $6500 for it.

I'll play at $650... as long as the seller will warranty that once the box is opened, that there is $250 face in silver coins (regardless of condition). I'll even play at multiples of $650 if you can't find 10 players.

Heck, I'd do $720 or so for 5 rolls of those . . . if original they would be worth the premium. Melt is $6780. If the box turns out to be crap, couldn't the buyer file a SNAD?

From the rust on the bands, it looks like the box has been in a moisture rich enviorment at some time. Could be some nice EOR toners in there image

OR they could all be toned black image ! ! !

Edited to add: Hell, I'd even pop for 10 rolls . . .

    THANKS dlmtorts ! ! !

After 2, 1 day listings with the seller not selling the brick, he busted it.
Had 3, 1 day auctions for 10 rolls each. I snagged THIS one.
He is also sending me the original packing slip pictured in the auction. Said he's putting the other 20 rolls back in the SDB and going to hold them awhile.

    Anyway, I'm HYPED ! ! ! image

Anyone else here win one of the other auctions?

I offered him $6620 outside eBay. He would have netted $6035 with eBay/PayPal fees @ $7100. At your buy price, he'd gross $7325 or $6225 net after fees. He should have taken my offer.
