any advice about which dealers buy modern Mint material?

DennisHDennisH Posts: 14,011 ✭✭✭✭✭
Got a call yesterday from one of my mom's oldest friends (he's about 80) who has been buying proof sets and mint sets from the Mint for about 20 years; he has some silver quarters but no gold or ASEs. Now he wants to unload the stuff, but since I've never had anything to do with that market I have no clue where to direct him.

Does anyone have any advice? Let's not even consider eBay.
When in doubt, don't.

I would call Modern Coin Mart.

An authorized PCGS dealer, and a contributor to the Red Book.

That sounds like a good idea to me.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Logistics; I'm here and he's there, and in order to do this right I'd need to see and verify what he has.
Shipping; getting that much bulk sent anywhere (to me for instance) will be expensive. Then it still needs to go to the buyer.
Trust; all of us here know how and why the BST works, but how do you get that across to someone else?
Odds of success; does modern Mint "stuff" in bulk really have a market here?

Not really I have been unloading some of my sets on eBay most at less than I purchased it from the mint for. In mosat cases this stuff sells for a loss so try not to get any hopes up.

    I agree.

They likely will sell for less than purchase price.

I'd be showing eBay completed auction prices as proof.

There are exceptions: silver and select prestige sets and others.

Easiest would probably be Modern Coin Mart. Good outfit. I agree with Ms. and the others, he'll get less than the purchase price. Unless there are silver proof sets, etc. in there.
Successful transactions with keepdachange, tizofthe, adriana, wondercoin
