Hmmm. So what you're saying is that you don't really care whether or not it's artificial or whether or not it's been doctored, you want to by it anyway?
As such, since you don't really care, you'll more than likely sell it at some point in the future? Being a seller of toned coins and all.
IMO, it's stuff like this which perpetuates coin doctoring and artificial toning.
Regardless of how it looks, if it's artificial, it affects the coin business in a negative way.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Respectfully disagree. There obviously is a market for toned coins out there and people who feed that need. Most responses in this thread are positive on the appearance.
I find the whole coin doctor thing a double edged sword. It's both good and bad, great and horrific on a kind of case by case basis. Doctors who really do things that constitute fraud are one thing but toning up a coin in my opinion is another thing.
On the flip side of that equation, I was once upon a time a Materials Science guy specializing in Corrosion Control. To me toning on coins is corrosion and ugly.
It's just that I see not much harm in toning a coin. Most of the pros and grading services can separate the wheat from the chaff anyway. I can't but they can. Stick with graded coins with the buyback guarantee and it's hard to go wrong.

I didn't start this thread to glorify coin doctors or even start a discussion about them. I was just sharing a purchase of a "raw" coin from a local show. I paid $150.00 for a coin that if it were in a slab would go for many thousands of dollars. I knew it was AT, everyone that has seen it knows its AT and it will alway be AT. This thread was posted to share my experience and nothing more.
I applaud you for enjoying the hobby however you want to enjoy the hobby Mr. D. I think some folks tend to go a little bit overboard and enjoy making fun of the toning community! I will say that it is blatantly obvious AT!
MrD, I for one like the coin you purchased! It is a nice piece AT or NT! Some people on here feel the need to be the numismatic police. The coin is what it is. It's not like your condoning coin doctoring.
Cheers and thanks for sharing!
And one more thing. If you didn't purchase that coin someone else would have and in turn possibly buried someone else in it for a lot more money.

Its a shame that some people can't enjoy what I think was a fun thread and turn it into something that it was never intended to be. I feel bad that some of the people that never got a chance to see the coin couldn't share my enjoyment. The bottom line is my reputation is of tantaimount importance and I don't want to do anything that might "tarnish" it:
<< <i>I stand by my point. I didn't hear him say he bought it to remove it from the market. IDK about enriching somebody's company. Today at the coin show they were tossing around some AT morgans just so people could have a look at them. If it says AT on them than he is not trying to deceive.

How is the toning nice...it looks dull and grey to me. The coin was purchased because it was cheap. I recall him saying $150. The coin would be worth much much more if it was original. Hardly enriching if you ask me.

I find that very difficult to believe since your sigline does nothing but promote your toned coin business. As a matter of fact, I could very well be wrong but the only items you ever do post are "toned" coins to promote your toned coin enterprise. And there's really nothing wrong with that.......until you state it's AT but I bought it anyway implying its ok to promote the AT coin business.
I just found the "I know the color isn't real but....................I had to buy it anyway" statement to be a bit pandering for toned coins which just so happens to be the bread and butter of your business.
If folks KNOW a coin has been AT'ed, then they should simply avoid them. Not promote the fact that they bought it anyway.

I don't believe for a second that MrD is "enjoying the hobby" as much as he's "promoting" his toned coin business. Maybe if he took that gawdawfull logo out of his sigline (which BTW violates the sigline rules), I might view it differently.

I like Sesquis, however, I think they are one of the coins that are randomly graded. TPGs have so much trouble with these they just randomly assign a grade between 58 and 66 to any that come in, then sit back and laugh as we puzzle out why particular examples got this or that grade.
