shrinking dollar silver

Kind of a cool piece I thought, with apparently only 3000 made (how many have been melted?)

I'm surprised people were talking about the shrinking dollar back in 1973. That was years before the inflation of the late 70s really took off.

But just 2 years after Nixon slammed the gold standard. Im not surprised at all that some forward thinkers would accurately predict what taking our currency off gold would eventually do. They were spot on. image

That is a very good find IMO. The most up to date mintage number for this silver art bar is 1000 according to the 2009 Archie Kidd silver art bar price guide. Those are hard to find locally. The Garden State Mint also minted a couple of silver art bars that have an "Energy Crisis" theme to it.

There are also 3 other silver art bars (Phase 2, Phase 3, and Phase 4) to complete the set which was minted in 1973.

Price inflation is not the cause of a shrinking dollar, it is the result of a shrinking dollar. The dollar shrinks when more of them are created.

Creating more dollars is an easy way to pay for government expenditures
