Here is a nice little 1942-D/D FS-501.

Edited to add. Mike Ellis confirmed the coin is indeed the FS-501 1942-D/D in the CPG.

I know that you know your mercs, but are you sure it's the FS 501? It looks more like a D/S with that little raised line in the center of the D. Either way it's a nice find.

When I saw the image I thought that, too. Coneca doesn't list a 1942-D/S, so maybe another discovery coin?

Here is an image of one of my others. Note the mint mark is in the same place.

They look like they could be two different RPMs to me, but maybe that is just because they differ in magnification.

Definetely looks like a D/S to me... Where is coppercoins at? He is an expert on mintmark varieties even on other series.
