    Hang 'em high. Stealing a mans livelihood is akin to stealing his horse!

    So you can steal $120,000, sell them for $22,000+, wait 4 years, receive up to a years probation and pay a $10,000 fine... that'll teach 'em!

    A very poorly written and confusing article. Clearly the reporter knows nothing about coins, not even the 1803-S dollar.

    The $10,000 isn't even a 'fine'. It's more 'restitution'.....which is going even easier on the scumbags, in my mind. A freakin' year, with the charges 'carrying a presumption of probation'. All that means to me (though I'm not majoring in pre-law) is that he's going to get probation, no jail time. No good sacks of ---.
    I'll come up with something.

    A father and son, Richard Goodwin Sr. and Jr., admitted their roles in the theft in 2007 of several expensive, rare coins.

    The coins stolen included:

    • $20 Liberty coins valued at $700 each

    I'm really impressed that the Numismatic community cooperated and all of the coins were recovered. I'm really depressed that in most states in America, young men carrying an ounce of marijuana will go to jail for 10 years or more, and get a degree in criminality, and these two losers steal upwards of $100K and our court system will kiss them for their inconvenience.

    Some fun quotes from the article:

    ===

    While theft at such coin shows is fairly common, Huffman, owner of the Xenia Coin Shop, said, it's "very unusual" for non-customers to be involved.

    (What's a "non-customer"? What does that quote even mean?)

    ===

    "We're a very trusting bunch," Huffman said.

    = = =

  • It's not about justice, it's about the WIN to most attorneys. I love the First Offender's Act...Slime-balls staying out of jail because it was their first offense. Give me a break...These guys should have spent some time for their blatant thievery!

    The one dude did get community service. That will probably involve rooting for the local college sports.

    It is our system. Altering the exp. date on a temporary automobile tag will get you a nice big permanant felony, but theft is not so serious??
