Grade?

I picked this up on ebay about a month ago and plan on submitting it to pcgs. It is more (brick) red then the pictures indicate and has a lot of luster to it. It was listed as XF but I think it is unc.
Thanks for looking, Rich

Its as natural as they come. I couldn't get the color right, but it is brick red with a mint luster and cartwheels.

I think it has a stronger strike than this 64RB and the color is similar, maybe a little more red.

My guess would be 62, based on the photos. However the seller's photos seem to show some nasty looking green on the reverse.

I wonder if the reverse edge is as struck. It looks like one the randel hoard cents one sees at times. I wonder if it will Genuine do to envior. damage. I think it is UNC detail and perhaps original color. I would guess genuine slab. image

The obverse looks like it has verdigris at 11 o'clock?

The reason I mention recolored; the reverse looks like it might have residue from MS70?

The spots on the reverse look like areas where verdigris was removed, so I would say cleaned AU details.

I agree.. something has been done - particularly to the reverse. Whether PVC or verdigris... cannot tell from pictures. Might get genuine or cleaned on that one. Neat coin otherwise... and I would keep it (if I had it...image ). Cheers, RickO

I agree with Steve... Genuine.... AU58 details for the rub on the cheek and in the hair and PVC or verdigris removed from the reverse...

Very nice coin from the Randall hoard. The spotting is normal on these coins. I have a pcgs ms64 R/B in about the same condition but with less spotting. Congrats on the good buy! Too bad you got all the other genuines though.

I was surprised on the "questionable color" result, I thought the 1899 and 1907 were going to nail a 65-66 r/b, mark free and very beautiful target toned. They may go elsewhere. image
