Would you ...Could you ?

Without seeing this in hand i couldn't form an opinion , perhaps with pictures and given time but these days i tend not to dwell when i see a sellers location is China and feedback is 3.

Ebay ...OMG

If its fake , and i'm not saying it is , but if it is ..doesnt bear thinking about.

"Wish your good of control breath"

A simple 'good luck' would have been shorter, but I suppose this works also.

  • In some cases you have to wonder if the address will get written on the package correctly.

I wonder how many times a Chinese seller with less than perfect English skills has tried to sell a genuine coin, only to have everyone flee in terror from his listing. image

You know there have to be SOME genuine coins in China.

There's probably an Eskimo or two in Arizona, even.

  • I buy plenty of genuine coins from guys in China, and some of them speak even worse English than the example in the OP. By and large, the average collector in China is WAY more frustrated by the counterfeit problem than folks here in the states. One of the largest forums/auctions on the Chinese internet (Coinsky) has even made it mandatory that every coin offered for auction on their site has to be checked by their "authentication team" before the listing goes live. It's only a check of the photo, but it's *EVERY* item! The number of auction listings isn't small either...

A funny story related to this: I met one of my best clients, a 30-something Chinese guy, at the Aurora coin show in Denver (small, 25 dealers maybe). I saw him walking by my table in the rear of the room with a sour look on his face, and since he was obviously mainland Chinese (and I was probably bored) I greeted him in Chinese. We got to talking and he complained that everyone in the room except me was a jerk, rude, etc. I asked him what the problem was (I like most everyone at that show myself), and he produces from his coat pocket about 8 raw bust dollars! He was upset that no one in the room wanted to talk to him about buying them. I told him what I thought the problem was (young Chinese guy + raw + bust dollars) and proceeded to examine the coins. One I didn't like, but all the others were genuine!
It turns out that he got into bust dollars while doing his PhD and postdoc in the states, but got tired of them and was getting into other areas. Over the next few months I bought them all, and every one went into PCGS plastic (even the "questionable" one; shows you what I know). After all, the formula [young white guy + raw + bust dollars] is still pretty suspect these days, right? I guess the moral here is that there are 2 billion people in China, give or take a couple hundred million, but it only takes 4-5 guys to run a counterfeit factory that churns out millions of pieces a year, plus maybe another score of guys for distribution.

That said, I suspect the percentage of scammers on ebay from any country is way higher than the percentage in the overall population. I don't buy any coins sight-unseen at all so that florin is no exception.

He's not very specific about the condition, he ticked the circulated option, but the coin looks unc to me, so it would be possible that it is a stolen image. Just a thought.

That is what i had thought also , i was almost swayed with the idea there has to be at least one honest Chinese ebayer until i seen the other coin sold last night right after the Godless. It was a Swiss 5 francs from the 19thc , 25g of silver in unc yet sold for 7 bucks.Ormandh's post seals it i reckon.
