My Parsippany, NJ Coin Show Report

AnkurJAnkurJ Posts: 11,370 ✭✭✭✭
Today was the monthly Parsippany, NJ coin show featuring close to 100 dealers. As expected, silver was the main attraction of this show for many people. I was set up in the small room along with Mr. Fonz. There was another dealer in the room who was busy buying silver the entire show! When I walked in at around 8:15, the entire show was packed, and there was a line at that dealers table to sell silver!

My guess for the early turnout was the bad weather, and everyone wanting to get in and out quickly. I was set up with some type coins, nothing fancy, and my photography service. At the end of the day I photographed a total of 17 coins, including a GORGEOUS Wreath Cent PCGS AU53 CAC pictured below. I actually had a good amount of free time after taking all images to walk to the floor. I saw lots of nice early type, tons of silver of all kinds including bars, eagles, general rounds etc. People seemed to be in force buying. The famous $4 Stella was on display. I heard Heritage was at the show buying, which kind of brings this show to a different calibur. This show is getting a lot national attention, and it will probably continue gaining steam. Lots of large cents were around, and lots of early usual problem coins that were just sitting. Lots of jewelry as well. A positive point was that I saw a lot of younger kids at the show with true interest in coins! My and my table buddy the Fonz gave out a few freebies to the younger numismatists.

After walking the show, I ended up buying one coin, and agreeing to another. My purchase was a crusty and dirty raw 1880 $5 Half Eagle in XF. I agreed to purchase a 1810 $5 Half Eagle in PCGS XF45 CAC with original skin and crust. Will be picking that one up in the next few months. I also purchased a full date set of American Silver Eagles in NGC MS69 from board member DBCOIN, and resold it for a small profit. Sales included a common date toned Morgan, and an 1807 Draped bust half in VG8 CAC. Most of my other better coins have sold on the BST image.

Board members I saw at the show included: NJCoincrank, RLD14, Seaeaglecoins, Joebb21 (the fonz), Thegeneral, DBcoin, breakdown (from a distanse), Onlygoldismone, Kishu, and a few others.

The highlight of the show for me was a 1891CC Morgan in a Doily MS65 CAC holder! I was too afraid to ask the price on that one though image.

Here is that gorgeous Wreath Cent:

    Ankur,
Sorry I missed you this month -- didn't have anything for imaging and was only at the show for an hour or so. I stopped in at the little room once but I didn't want to interrupt you in the middle of a transaction. That Wreath Cent is a stunner -- a nice perk of taking photos has to be all the cool coins you get to see. Sounds like you bought some nice gold again -- post photos when you have 'em! See you next month.image

Good to see you as well Dave! I missed Andy and Oreville. I guess thats the downside of being in the small room.

Best thing about coin photography is seeing some stellar coins up close I otherwise would not have an opportunity to.

I'm sure if you called Drunner he would have bought the 1890cc doily and paid you a finders fee image
