Grade my new purchase

Posted this once before but my pictures were crap . I think these are alot better , took picture in 2x2 because I hate playing with staples around my good coins.

In Doug Winters book he says between 70-80 known

I like it! Looks like the eagle is pinching one out. That is a mm though, I take it? Looks oversized for a coin of that size.

Since the front is MUCH nicer than the back how do they grade it ? Average it out ? image

Boy, the reverse strike is really lousy. The obverse is beautiful. I don't really know, but I could see that getting into an AU holder. I think its price still needs to reflect the mushy reverse, but as for actual wear I'm seeing an AU coin.

XF45 based upon absolutely nothing other than it was my initial grade when viewing it. Am I to understand it is a rare variety as well? Market grading will probably give it a boost if that's the case. XF45. Nice coin.

Ok, I just saw RYK's thread regarding grading that 2 1/2 dollar coin. That coin has alot more detail on it, so this one probably would be a 40, but if this is a rarer date/variety than it could squeak by with a 45.

Not sure , but before Pat Vetter sent it in he told me it looked to be cleaned at some point . Will have coin back next week sometime.

Sorry to hear of the genuine label. But, one must wonder why if only 70 to 80 exist, why on earth would it not have been slabbed previously? In any case, based on your images, the coin does not look bad and would probably fit nicely in a Dansco 7070 album. On a better note, if 70 to 80 are known to exist, at least the genuine label would put any question to rest as to whether or not the coin is genuine or counterfeit.

Very handsome qtr eagle. Bummer about the genuine but damn, that is still a wonderful early NO coin.

    I'd guess XF40.

Certainly looks cleaned in the photo (as I indicated in a prior thread or PM). It is the scarcest NO $2.50 and still very desirable as such.

Exactly the reason I still sent it in .

For a scarce coin, a genuine holder lends authenticity, and is worth keeping it that way. Cheers, RickO
