My new purchase some "DIRTY GOLD"

There was 4,000 of these minted . According to Doug Winters 65-75 are known in all conditions. Mintage was not delivered till Jan. 22, 1846 so there is no official records for 1845 . Rarest of the New Orleans quarter eagles . Can I have opinions on grade please !

  • Nice,

I usually see the wear on these reversed with the obverse more worn than the reverse. Your pics almost make it look like two different coins. AU/VF is what I would guess?

I am the worst picture taker on the forum , reverse is really worn compared to obverse.

My grade would be EF-40. Looks like a nice piece.

Nice pre-Civil War date from a southern branch mint. A lot of history in that coin. If that coin could only talk but that would be a little creepy.

If you use a piece of tracing paper in front of your light source, it softens the light enough to get a good image. Straight light can be too harsh.
All coins kept in bank vaults.

Also take it out of the slip before you shoot it.

It needs to be taken out of the cardboard 2x2 and photographed in the buff.

Actually got a cheap camera and I will never be a photographer ... I put the coin on the floor in front of my door using natural light ... but in the flip ... and I had clothes on !

No the coin needs to be shot naked / raw... As I doubt undressing will improve your pics imageimage

Hard to judge the "dirt" factor based on the lighting, but detail wise, I'd give it a:

    NGC AU-50
    PCGS XF-45
