Always fun watching a coin for sale in 2 venues - aka - "ain't the internet great?"

Before the internet, and ebay

Coin is offered on ebay...put on watch list as the price is just a bit high, and the grade just a tad lower than what I want, but still tempting.
Coin looks familiar, seller is recognized (didn't know they sold on ebay but they do), and go to website but coin remembered is no longer there. Moved to ebay and not being sold on the website at the same time? That's a good thing, imho.
Then, email comes in and same coin type/year/grade/holder as the ebay one is offered w/ discount with a group of others. Price is a bit higher than ebay. Ebay price is starting bid or BIN for ~25% more. Price in email is 50% more than starting price on ebay, before discount (after discount is still more than BIN on ebay).
I don't get it.....why offer the coin in email to customers, and make them think they are getting a nice discount, for being a loyal customer, when anyone buying it on ebay (where seller will pay fees!) will get it for even less?
Oh well......just a reminder to not buy right when you see something in email/on a website....always look around a bit first...you may find the same EXACT coin cheaper somewhere else

seen the same piece sell on ebay a week earlier for $750.
O the marvel of tracking a cert number.....
needless to say, I did not give them their $581 markup. And, the added benefit, that guy is not calling me four times a day any longer.
I think that is a great question to direct to the sender of the email.

Better yet, let the seller know that you found a similar coin for less on eBay and then ask him if he can beat the price for the eBay coin.

I almost bought it with the BIN on ebay to throw a monkeywrench into things
(I didn't because I decided for not much more, and with some patience, I should be able to get a higher grade, better looking, example for the set........damn MarkFeld influence on me again

<< <i>Maybe the owner of the coin is selling it on ebay and the "broker" is offering it to his mailing list??? >>
That happened before (same dealer) but this time, 100% sure that the dealer and ebayer are the exact same
