Nice score in scrap silver lot

One of my security guards at work was at another store ealier this week and while helping the manager fill change found $7.50 fv in silver quarters. I gave him a fair price for the silver and have spent a bit of time today after work checking the coins. I only found 3 Cherry picker varieties in all of them but it was fun.

Found-
1963 Type B reverse XF45
1964 D RPM MS64ish
1964 D DDO MS65ish with a planchet flaw on the reverse

also found a 1944P nickel and a 1934 buffalo nickel today, good day

I bought an 04O quarter in VF and a 98P half in XF for way back of Bid, from dealers who recently salvaged these from junk silver lots. Lots o' good stuff out there!

But, but, but, if a dealer had bought the silver from your friend he would get hung up by his private parts by many on this forum for ripping off the seller. At the very least he would be called upon to get in touch with the seller and pay him more money. I still don't understand why it is ok for a collector to cherrypick but not a B&M owner.

Those arn't exactly cherrypick rips and who said it isn't ok for a dealer to cherry a customer. There has to be a line in the sand where an obvious rip compared to a rip off lies.

It also depends on the situation.

I actually had this talk with the guard and told him if I found anything worth a bit more I would split it. He told me don't worry about it cause I was doing the work and he made a good profit.

Plus most of the dealers I know see enough scrap silver that they look for very few varieties and if you go through the scrap you might cherry a few yourself.

As for depending on the situation--how? Why is it more ethical for you to rip some unknown ebay seller who doesn't know what he has (from your sig line--a MPL cent) then it would be for a B&M dealer to do the same if the seller had taken it to him?

Note: I DO NOT think cherrypicking is unethical. I do, however, think that if ethical in one direction that it has to be the same from the other side.
