    How is it special?

    Non Randall hoard coin, clearly.

    What else?

It must be rare Newcomb variety ...

Ahh, yes, N-14, R-5- according to John Wright ... rare in all grades ... census reaches down to Fine with "12+" examples.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I don't have my references with me - I know it is not an N-6, and I don't see any evidence of the overdate, so that excludes N-1.
Unless it's a distortion caused by the photo, it looks to be 'out of round' - so maybe it's the planchet used that's special, or the way it was struck?

I don't have my references either but I'm guessing N-14. The date looks right. --Jerry

BillJones post wasn't there when I started looking. He must have started his post before mine but finished after. Makes sense since he came up with more detail.
