Almost impossible to grade a coin when the coin is tilted in the image. This can bring out colors, but makes it difficult to gauge surface quality.
Need a Barber Half with ANACS photo certificate. If you have one for sale please PM me. Current Ebay auctions

That being said I'd say MS65 FBL...based upon what can be told from the images, but I'm far from an expert on the series.

Not trying to be mean but I am thinking it looks AU.

My lighting is not the best, but it was just a quick shot to give everyone an idea of what it looks like in hand.

    X2

But, as mentioned, tough with those pics.

edit to add: Lots of sliders for 1955 Frankies.

  • The '50s proofs are pretty glassy. Even at this picture angle, this one's no proof. The good news is, you don't necessarily want it to be. It's a $100, or thereabouts, coin, in MS65FBL, which is the grade I think it could conceivably go, giving these glary pictures every benefit of the doubt. It doesn't appear to be one of those bugsy critters. It's in real nice shape, though, a real problem-free gem. IMO...
  • Thanks for the feedback guys. This is just 1 coin of a complete set of Frankies that a friend of mine asked to look at for her. I will try to take a better pic sometime today. Overall, the set is very nice.

    Looks like a MS65 FBL.

    Value could be between $80 - $125.

Discolored... but good condition ... MS64 - maybe 65..... that would be pushing it... let's say 64+. Cheers, RickO
  • I'm seeing at least 4 discreet fingerprints on obv and 1 on rev.
Also the darkening of the fields (if that is not just an artifact of the lighting/photo) suggests a slider, but hard to say with an certainty from those pix.

The 49-s is mid-grade circulated with a pretty substantial rim bump at the 12:00 position.....but what do I know...
  • Because the picture of the '55 is so washed out, it is nearly impossible to grade. But, it looks AU to me as well. The value is, assuming it is AU, no more than 13 bucks, and if uncirculated, no more than 18. The 49S is VF (IMHO), with the rim dings it isnt worth more than 13 bucks as well.

  • Looks like some complete Franklin sets on Ebay go for an average of $300+....does this seem about right?
And this is what the Melt Calculator has come up with:

    Quantity: 35
Coin Type: 1948-1963 Franklin Half Dollar
Silver Price: $29.90 / troy ounce

    Total silver value is $378.51.

The 55 is not easy to see well based on the image. The 55 appears to be an impaired proof though I am not certain , but also appears to of been handled to some degree based on the the edge and some spots on the bust there are some ticks as well one under the "we"and elsewhere. The fingerprints as well are a sign of some handling.

The 49s based on the damage and condition would be 10-12 bucks on the BST.
