hope the pawn store got their license number or some other kind of picture ID information. Until pawn & coin stores start doing this for every transaction where they take something in (like they are supposed to here in IN) this stuff will keep coming into the overall market.
Funny how the pawnie didn't call the cops until he realized he was duped. If he did what he was supposed to, he wouldnt be out $400. At least being a business he can write it off.

Several of the fake coins were recently sold to a Port Angeles business, EZ Pawn, for $400. They would have been worth more than $1,500 had they been real, Benedict said.

Looks like the pawn shop got took for a ride this time instead of making almost tripple of what they paid image

Obviously the article got it wrong. An 1893-S is worth several thousand on its own, even in ratty condition.
  • I think it's just a poorly written article , the 1893s was singled out : "Unlike most counterfeits, the coins did not all have the same dates. One was a super rare 1893S, worth thousands and thousands".

I like the value description , it's like a 10 year old wrote it with oodles and oodles of effort.
